MP3 Ringtones.. answer

I know there are several threads about this with plenty of good information. This is for the people that don't have the inclination to dig through the large threads to find it. I have done this myself several times without any problems.

#1. Go to www.funformobile.com and download wavepad and install. All the instructions for cropping files are included on the website... very good instructions.

#2. Open the MP3 or other sound file (works on .wav files, too) that you wish to use as a tone. Edit the file to size and duration. I've cropped mine to 19-25 seconds.

#3. Save your file as an MP3 (file, save file as, choose MPeg layer 3 from the drop-down at the bottom). A window will open up asking for the bitrate to use. 48 is a decent set...

I've tried this method and it doesn't work for me. I made a mp3 ringtone using Wavepad then sent it to my phone through their website, but it didn't work. You say you need to change the file extension to .mid. Well, how exactly do you do that? I tried to rename it but all it did was rename it song.mid.mp3. Do I need to activate MMS on the phone in order to receive the message from funformobile.com? Thanks in advance for any help...

In order to change a filename extension, there are a few things that you need to do. Follow these steps:

1) Open up Microsoft Explorer (not Internet Explorer) by right clicking on your Start button and choosing Explore.

2) Click Tools.

3) Click Folder Options.

4) Click the View tab.

5) Uncheck Hide extensions from known file types.

6) Click Apply

7) Now you can rename your file. i.e. music.mp3 to music.mid.

8 ) You may get a message telling you that changing a file extension could cause the file not to work (something along those lines) and are you sure that you want to do this? Click yes.

There you go! Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I was able to change my mp3 file to a .mid file and was able to apply it as a ringtone. For some reason though, the ringtone I applied on plays when the incoming call is from my home number. I know I didn't set it up that way. I just downloaded the song and when I saved it I applied it as ringtone right away. Anyone else have this problem?

To see it visit www.vzwpix.com. When I do that my tone is all garbled. How do I get this sent to my phone in its ungarbled state??? Please help

ok so i followed the instructions and this doesnt work AT ALL

are you supposed to send the tone through pix place or a regular email address??

when i send it through pix place, i get:
Invalid media type for upload: touch.mid (audio/mpeg)

when i send it through gmail for example, it wont download and the little mail icon has a clock on it? and when it tries to download, a lock appears, flashing

I see some new questions about this. Bumping it up for those that need it. I can confirm... MP3 will NOT work as a ringtone. It has to be changed to .wav

I followed the instructions on the original post and it worked perfectly about 3 times. Then I received a txt message to go to the vzpix site to see my messages. I had to read a page long agreement then could see the messages with the .mid files, but could do nothing but look and play them. What happened?
Thanks

Someone else explained almost the same technique to transfer small mp3's to the phone.....I tried it and could not get it to work. The last part in your instructions was just the thing! I had to right click the dial and then go to menu, then save and then IT WORKED!! THANK_YOU.....

yes, the MP3 file works ....I stored it to the phone, then went to the person I wanted it assigned to and then Changed the ringer ID....it works great....Thanks again...

one question....any other way to get the file from my computer to the phone other than e-mail?
I have the data cable, or do I need a Blue Tooth USB adapter?

I have followed the earlier instructions to a T but the message I get tells me to visit vzwpix.com to view my message. I tried right clicking the dial but nothing happens. When I go to the vzwpix website my tone is all garbled. Yet it plays ok when I click on the file on my computer. What am I doing wrong?

Its actually quite simple. The instructions listed will work. When not recieving picture messages directly, but instead being re-directed to the web site: CALL YOUR SERVICE PROVIDER. Ask them to program your phone to send/Recieve Pix Messages.

I keep hoping that one day this will work for me but every time I attempt it, I get the same error message. It tells me each and every time that it's unable to download and to try again later.

Is it just me that it does this to or has anyone else that has tried this had that problem?

Has this been mentioned before? If you have a memory card for the phone (they're less than $8 on line for a smaller capacity card), it's REALLY easy to message the sound file from the card to a bogus address.

The file then shows up in your outbox, where you can then save it to your phone.

It's well known among the v710 users, and I just picked up an 815 as a replacement, and it works just as well.
