Picked one of these up tonight...wife needed to upgrade from her LG VX4400...it's seen better days. Plus she's been yearning for a camera phone.

Phone has nice operation. Menu (I thought) was very easy...was able to figure out most of the settings without even opening the manual. Sound quality is EXCELLENT...I love the keypad...nice big keys that press easily with a solid feel.

The phone itself fees very solid...has a nice sturdy build quality.

Only had it a few hours...but I'm very impressed so far.

Well Done, Motorola!

Yea i agree with you it is a nice phone. I am impressed with Motorola this time as well i have always been a Motorola fan though their downfall has always been their charging port but i noticed they have changed their travel/home charger so i hope that is a help. I tested the phone out at a circuit city store yesterday and i do like the keypad the buttons feel like they have a gel underneath them. Its a quick phone and i like the demo video as well very impressive. I cant wait till my phone battery is conditioned so i can start using my phone!

Yes you have to condition your battery. They tell you that when you buy your phone. Since your phone don't come with a full charge you need to shut your phone off and i have always charged my battery for 24 hours the first time around to condition the battery it will hold the battery charge longer. Some reps say do it for 8 hours or 12 hours i have tried both they don't hold up like a 24 hour charge i don't recommend anything past 24 hours though. Than after your battery gets down to nothing you are suppose to charge your battery 8-10 hours the ideal time for that is at night time when you are sleeping so when you wake up your battery is charged. Just because your battery says "Charge Complete" does not mean your battery is completely c...

Regarding the charging port, I had another motorola phone that was about 3 years old and the same charger and car charger work on this as well.

Regarding conditioning the battery, once the phone says 'charge complete' isn't it shutting off any more power from the charger?

The only time it will shut off power from the charger is when you physically unplug it. Thats why they have the option now on cell phones a lot of people haven't noticed to program how long you want your phone to be charged on a car charger it should be no more than a hour and it may say charge complete but its not completely charged. Car chargers are just a temporary fix until you can get to a travel/home charger. Also if it shut off power to the battery when it said charge complete there would be no use of conditioning the battery.

Yes, as I said in another post just a second ago, once the phone says "charge complete" it stops charging the battery and just powers the phone itself.

So when you first get your phone, I'd still say run down the battery fully and then charge it up, done. Leaving it for 24 hours, 24 years, whatever, won't do anything besides leave your phone sitting there not getting any use. Run your battery down sometimes to keep it strong, that's it.

The car timer thing for charging is just to save your car battery from slowly being drained by your cell phone, so that you can leave your phone off and plugged in to the car for 1-4 hours or whatever you want and then it'll shut off and stop wasting power, since by then it should be charged anyway.

The car charger if charged on there long enough for and doing it on a regular basis will indeed ruin your phone its a proven fact. It can burn your screen ruin your battery and your phone and thats why when you buy a phone from Verizon the rep gives you the spiel about don't charge your phone on the car charger for more than 45minutes to an hour.

I have also heard that "conditioning" your phone is no longer needed in all these new phones. When you plug in your charger at home and it says charge complete it is complete. It stops charging the battery. Also a few reps were telling me that people have ruined a new battery conditioning it. They let it get down low that first time and then the battery just dies. To each his own I guess.

moto...about the charger...i believe this is their quick charger. I own the razor and this style charger is what they sell as their quick charger. Would make sense since this has a bigger battery capacity then the 710 (which i also own). Anyway, been using 815 for a day and i like it alot. They seemed to have fixed most of the issues with the 710. The camera takes better pictures as well (much brighter). The one thing that is still the same and troublesome is the keypad response. The "4" key on my phone doesn't respond well (same problems as the 710). Try the keypad before you buy it.

I just got mine today at Circuit City, I returned my V710 because I was in the 2 week trial period. I like the V710 but this phone was actually going to be less money and I anticipate the battery life to be better. I was able to handle both phones and compare them while I was working the exchange. For those of you getting excited about the E815 having better "build" quality, I am telling you that they are the same. The feel like identical quality which isn't a bad thing. The display on the outside doesn't go dark when the phone is in standby, the directional toggle seems to have feel, the keypad is basically similar. I haven't had a chance to demo it yet but my initial reaction is that the phone feels comparable to the V710, if it work...

Yes the battery life is longer but you have to factor in how many more features the E815 has compare to the V710 which will drain the E815 more. Its bound to need the extended battery which should be out sometime soon.

I really anticipate using the E815 to send and receive calls for the most part, I figure that compared to the V710, I am getting a better battery which should be an upgrade for my needs.
