Does anyone know if they have changed the charging port on this phone from the old style used on the V710?

From my understanding they have not changed the charging port unfortunately its nice to have a universal charging port like Motorola has but its nicer when it works good.

Unless they change it in the production phones, the charging port is the same. I agreed that they should change the charging port design so it make it easier for users, but I also like the idea of being able to use all my accessories from the V710. I have had a lot of Moto phones in the past with VZW and Nextel, and I have not had any problem with the charging port. The trick is to press the little button like thing on the charging cord when you insert and release the charger from the phone, instead of pulling on it. I hope this help.

Yea i know the button you are talking about a lot of people don't realize that exists and just yank out the cord that can cause some damage. Motorola made a bluetooth adapter for their non bluetooth phones well their was one problem it never had a release button for the port on the bottom so the only way to get the bluetooth adapter out was by literally yanking it out of the charging/universal port out of the bottom of the phone not too smooth their Motorola! I invested in a dual desktop charger for my V710 where you don't deal with the actual chargers your batteries go in there i really hope that helps you can get them on Verizons website for $39.99 without tax or you can go on Ebay and get one i think it will help save on the life of you...

Not only that but alot of people feel it necessary to charge the phone with the CLA while talking on the phone. I see this more than anything.

Yea you have to turn your phone off and charge it people wonder why it takes so long to charge your phone while its on and why the charging meter goes so slow! Gee i wonder why! Thats why they say turn off your phone at night and charge the battery for a good 8 hours or so wake up turn the phone on and you are good to go for a few days. The only time that it might be an exception is when you are using a car charger but you aren't even suppose to use those for more than 45 minutes to a hour thats why they even have a setting on your phone now for how long you would like your phone to charge on your car charger. They have these features for a reason! Car chargers will burn up a phone fast!

And I get to deal with people all day that do that. There are people that come in the store and say this is the tenth time I've been in here whit this phone and it's not charging again. After asking them a few questions and them getting huffy and saying something like "I know how to use my phone" I find out they use it while plugged in. I tell them not to, fix the phone and never see them again. and this isn't just Moto it's all phone makes. People don't realize how delicate (or expensive) these are.

on any phone you can talk and it will charge but thats not what we are saying what we are saying is its bad for your phone. It slows down the charging time it slowly kills your battery hurts the charging port maybe not as bad as Motorola. And if you are always using a car charger your in real trouble its gotten to a point where cell phone manufacturers have put a option on your cell phone under car settings for how long you want your cell phone to fry on your car charger because after a hour it will start to fry because it gets a lot more power out of a car than a house and it will burn up the screen and it will say charge complete and the charge isn't complete and when your battery is dead and/or nearly going dead you are suppose to shut ...

I don't charge my motorola when I am talking because it doesn't work. on my lg it always charged just as fast and I had the phone for a complete 2 years without any problems, but maybe that was just my good luck.

I have to agree with the above. It's Motorola phone's that shouldn't be charged while talking on them. I had Three Mot T720 and Four T730. My first three T720 went bad from charging like has been mentioned. My T730's all had various other problems (Froze, Mobile web stop working, horrible beasts). Verizon just said I have terrible bad luck, so they started my NE2 a year (Oh I didn't mention that all this happened in under a year!) early and I got the Motorola V710. But after using it only a few days and having multiple freezes, glitches, and finally it started having problems with the charging port (I had learned not to talk on it while it was charging) I exchanged it for the LG 7000, which I was not happy about at the time. However, I could...

My best guess as to why Motorola has not changed the charging port design is in response to customers like me. I spent over $300 on having the "professional install" kit put in my car back when I had the V60c several years ago. Now if Motorola decided to change their charging port design for all their phones, they would alienate customers like me. Granted, while the design doesn't work too well in a desktop charger (docking and undocking the phone tends to be a PITA), I think it is a quite durable port.

That could be a good guess but its also time Motorola gets the show on the road and at least if they wanna keep the same design work out the flaws because with every new phone that comes out the port becomes less reliable so does the charger thats the problem i had the V60 series as well and to be quite honest i think that was their best run.
