Will the speakerphone be full or half duplex?

From what I've heard and read, half duplex.

Maybe I'm slow....but, what does this "duplex" stuff mean? 🙂

Full duplex means you can talk and listen at the same time, just like a normal land line.

Half duplex means you can talk OR listen, but not both. More like a walkie-talkie.

I'm going to be very disappointed if the 5600 is half duplex. ☹️

Oh, okay...thanks for the explanation. I have a Sanyo 8200 now, and I believe that's only half duplex as well. Yeah, I'm hoping the 5600 if full duplex as well...

Does it really matter if a cellphone is half duplex? Isn't the point of speaking to each other to listen to the other person before responding? My home cordless telephones are full duplex and I find this to be annoying. Why? Because I hate it when somebody starts speaking over me when I'm not done making my point. Does anybody else think this way? Wouldn't a half duplex cell phone prevent this annoying habit from happening?

The stop-go communication gets a bit annoying. What is more-so annoying is you have to wait a second after the other party stops talking before you can start to talk again. Also, 99% of the people on the other end don't know that the phone is half duplex, attempt to say something which you won't hear and then they get upset when they think you are ignoring them.

Back to the original topic, during our last Sprint training, the Sanyo rep said that the MM-5600 WILL INDEED be full duplex. He did not have a live 5600 on hand, so I couldn't test it to verify it 100%. But, he's been correct on everything else he's told us, so I don't see this to be any different.

I just really wish the 5600 would have BT ☹️

But's much more frustrating when you're being cut off by the phone and you don't realize it, or vice-versa. The conversation is actually much easier if at least you both know you're trying to speak at the same time, and one person can stop and let the other speak.

With half-duplex, you don't know the other person is trying to say something, and they don't know you can't hear them.

But it depends on the implementation. Some half-duplex speakerphones are very good, and are very hard to tell from full-duplex. Other half-duplex implementations are terrible, with half-second pauses...

I used to be happy about owning a PM-8200 until I stuck my nose into this thread. I guess the saying is true - "Comparison is the basis of all unhappiness". Even if this phone is full duplex, I have to wait over a year to make it worth my while. Maybe you guys have preferences that would
persuade you to drop big bucks on a phone without a trade-in discount. More power to you. I can't afford it. ☹️

What is a "trade-in discount"?
