"upgrading" the s710 firmware

I know its very early in the game but does anyone have an idea on how to go about "upgrading" the phones firmware. The memory stick pro and 128 mb limitation has to be a S.E. software limitation rather than hardware. I'll be receiving my phone shortly but I thought I'd test the waters 😈

im curious what will happen if you slide a Duo Pro in there, but i doubt either of those limitations will be remedied....ever...

yeah...... MSD Pro won't work AT ALL 😲

I wanna know how likely all of you guys think it is that a firmware update is released... Like what % chance is there that it'll happen? 0% for sure? GRRRRRR

I seriously doubt any firmware update will allow it to see more than 128mb. They've got plenty of things to address in the firmaware of actual issues it seems.

Anyone else??

Specifically:

What odds (% chance) would you give that future firmware upgrades include MSD PRO support??

I'd say slim to none. That would be a hardware issue, not a software one. It would be like asking a PlayStation to read a PlayStation 2 game; it'll fit in there, but the hardware just won't recognize it. The compression type is different from a Duo and a Duo Pro. Kinda like a CD and a DVD.

Some of us have already been through this with SE. I used to work for a Cingular dealer & I spoke w/ SE's area MDM (Market Development Mgr) as well as one of their engineers (they have a plant about 90 mins from me) who worked on the production of this and the s700i. I asked them about it, and, their answer (to put it simply) is "No - wait for the release of the W800i, which will support duo pro).

hmm. the W800i looks pretty kool but i dont think i could gather the money to aford it. i heard nokia on the radio talk about a phone thats suppose to be coming out with 2 mega pixle camera and mp3 sound to rival an ipod which is what the W800i is like but the price tag on the nokia was around £450(not sure what that equates to for you americans).

the only real added bonus the W800i would give me is the Pro DUO support as im a big music fan but i plan to get the S700i and possibly a couple of 128MB DUO sticks to change when i want to.

i just wundered how easy it is to get the batery cover off to get under the batery to the memory card slot? i read that its hard to get off and ppl have had problems wih it.

is this easily done?

On the s710a the memory card slot is on the side of the phone and not under the battery. The SIM card is under the battery but not the memory stick slot.
