I am considering getting one(P910a) through Cingular and this is one of my main concerns...this is always an issue when buying a phone that a provider doesn't carry. They act as if they can't do a thing for you, if they don't carry the phone.
Please let me know if you have worked this situation out and if so, how is it working?
Thanks

The problem is that each phone requires different settings and if the carrier doesn't sell the phone they don't ahve anyone who actually gets all the settings needed for the phone. Sony might be able help but They don't have CIngular's settings either.

Yeah, I was purchasing a P910 online from letstalk.com and they were offering the service with AT&T wireless...big red flag came up b/c of the merger with Cingular. I asked the operator at Cingular what would happen if I purchased this phone and she told me that if I did purchase, when cingular and AT&T did their final merge, that any phone purchased with AT&T would not work on the Cingular Network, and that I'd have to purchase a new phone. I was like no way b/c the phone cost too much money to be strictly used as a PDA b/c no other carrier will put it on their network. So none of the majors right now have it to offer. Does anyone know when they'll offer the phone? Cingular had it on their screen, but said that they don't sell it yet, bu...

Problem Fixed!!!!

Sorry for the delay but I got the internet figured out on the p910a. I gave Sony the correct info because what they were giving out was not correct.

Since Cingular currently does not carry this phone they cannot provide support for it unless you get the smartest data tech available, which doesn't happen too often.

If you have any problems setting this phone up please contact me via a post on this forum.

As far as the AT&T/Cingular merger questions... since the phone is unlocked it will work on either system and the only thing you will need to do is pick up a new SIM card from Cingular and switch a plan, so migrate to Cingular from AT&T. Take the discount on a new phone as a back-up is my advice.

Good luck...

Yeah, I didn't think I'd have the problem as long as the phone wasn't locked, but they told me that it would be locked since it was gonna be an AT&T phone. Well, I cancelled but now I'll just buy an un-locked phone and take it to cingular when I get it. Thanks!! I'll contact you if I need help when contacting Cingular.

Kholubar can you please explain exactly how you got this to work. I purchased the p910i yesterday and opened a cingular account and was up to 4am last night trying to get the internet to work. no matter what settings i enter on the ericsson support website it wont send me the automatic setup message. i emailed support this afternoon but lord only knows how long it will take to get a response from them.

thanks

Hey, well I finally got the P910 and I'm very impressed. I took it to Cingular and established service yesterday, however the tech was not able to set up the internet (as you stated in your other thread). Can you please fill me in to what setting need to be put in to get the service to work.

Thanks

It looks as if you got the email problems sorted? If so, any hints? I'm an ATTW/Cing customer in MN and ready to get a p910.

I have the P910a w/AT&T and I purchased it from Sony Ericsson last week and just got it Tuesday. It came programmed w/AT&T's settings. The email works great.

GeeGee did you purchase through Letstalk.com. If you did, you may want to call them and ask what happens when Cingular and AT&T networks merge. From what I got from Cingular, the phone won't work once this occurs. Called Letstalk.com and they said the same. So what happens is that you have an expensive phone that you can't use b/c no one else will take the phone from another carrier. Anyone know when Cingular will carry the phone?

Does this mean that when Cingular and At&t merge networks that att customers will be forced over to cingular? Will any of the current At&t phones work then? When will this take place?

I had the same problem when I switched from AT&T to Cingular. After about a week with Cingular Tech support I was told I has to switch back to AT&T. Once I did my phone started working again with the internet feature.
