Just got my V265. Was wondering if there is anyway to get pictures off the phone without using Verizon's paid services? Same with getting ringtones on.

I did a search of this forum, and it looks like the functionality is disabled in the Motorola Phone Tools software with this phone. Is this true? Are there any other "creative" alternatives I should be aware of?

Thanks...

This can be done. First you need Motorola Phone Tools and the USB cable with established connection to the phone. From there you need to download some hacks along with a hex editor to edit the seem files on the phone. You can find complete instructions along along with download sites on cellphonehcaks.com and howardforms.com. Be prepared to do a lot of reading. If you are not comfortable with hex editors and and the like you may want to pass on this one. If you screw up your phone you may wish you used the Verizon method.

I have done the stuff required to get my phone to actually be MINE. I've got my date display on the inside, put my name as the banner on the outside display when the flip is open, uploaded my own ringtones via my pc, and downloaded my pics from my camera. This is the way the phone should have been sold. I don't want to have to pay verizon $.25 for every pic i want to keep, or $2 or more for a ringtone (out of a limited selection). My rating of this phone jumped a few notches after doing all of the stuff. Like mikey says, be prepared for lots of reading. I'm a computer scientist, so messing around with hex editors and such is second nature. The only thing that really got me freaked for a few seconds, is after editing my enhanced roamin...

Set your name as the banner, huh? How did you do that? I tried that with mine and it stopped letting me enter letters before I had my whole name spelled. I assure you that my name is shorter than "Verizon Wireless", but I tried a couple of times and it wouldn't go beyond the "o" in McCullough.

Any ideas, or is there nothing I can do?

TIA

Is there anyway to this if you are not a computer scientist?? I have bad feelings for verizon & motorola, that I have to "trick" my phone into doing what I have paid for. any suggested sources for very easy directions. The pictures is my main interest, I have the motorola v265 & usb/SOFTWARE. THANKS

The other easy option (without cable) is to email pics and midis to your phone. Suppose your phone number is 111-222-3333, then send an email to

1112223333@vzwpics.com

with the image (jpg) or midi (for a ringtone) attached. Your phone should have no problem reading the attachment on your phone.

Note, for mac users, you must select "Send Windows-friendly attachments" in Mail, otherwise it will not work.

This being said I'm still going to buy a cable.
