Date Display

I've seen a V265 with the date display on the inside screen as something like "1/11/05." This was a Verizon dealer (Radio Shack). I would like to purchase online or at a Verizon store. They (at the Verizon Store) had never seen such and thought I was crazy. Anybody know anything?

i think on motorolas from the outside display if you hit the button on the side...i think the volume button...that it switches from time to date...so you can use that in the mean time
it does s how the date before you ota the phone

its a small problem with a big issue with a poor color screen

The button on the side does nothing for the date display. The date will display in the next software release. The screen is a little smaller than I would like but it's really not that big of an issue.

How do you find out about these software releases?
I just bought my phone yesterday and there is still no date showing anywhere-the only way I can find the date is to go through the menu.

By removing the banner, all that happens is that the banner becomes "verizon wireless." You get the time with, or without, a banner.

The 265 you saw at RS with the date displayed was not activated. Once the phone gets activated the date is no longer displayed. To do this on your phone, go to the phone info menu, select active line and select new line. The date will now be displayed because you are unactivated. Go back in and change back to your line so the phone works again.

i just got off the phone with a verizon level 2 tech support. he knew nothing about an upgrade coming (maybe there is, maybe there's not). he suggested i stop at my local vzw outlet/store - he said the tech guys in there know more about updates that vzw tech support does!

my bad on the display...i thought the 710 did that or something close

well the only resolution i can think of is to make one of the short cuts of the phone go into your calendar. so you get the date and if you want to add items.

If and when the next software update is release, the only reason the Date display issue isn't resolved is because Verizon doesn't want it to be. As with other features Verizon has disabled on this phone, the Date display fix is a simple as change one character in one line of the seem code. Verizon doesn't want you to remove their name, that's all there is too it.

OK, I just got this phone last week and I am pretty please with it. I have been trying to figure out how to display the date and could figure it out. That is when I came across this site and read the post that all of you posted.

I went to my local verizon store and told the tech that I heard rumor about there being an update to get the phone to show the date. He told me there was and to leave my phone there for 45 minutes and he would update it. Guess what, my phone still does not diplay the date.. Has anyone else figured this out?

There is really nothing to figure out. Verizon has not made the change yet to allow the date to be displayed. If they do make the change the date will be displayed where it now says Verizon Wireless. You can try this to see the date. Go to phone info, select active line, select new line. Guess what? Verizon Wireless is gone and the date now displays like it should. Of course your phone no longer works because the new line is not activated. Go back in and select your phone # so the phone works again and the date will be gone. Just curious, what software level is your phone at now that Verizon claims to have updated it? You can check this in phone info.

After doing some reading on cellphonehacks.com and howardforms.com, here is what I found. First you need a USB cable to connect your phone to PC. This comes with Motorola Phone Tools Software available on E-bay and from others. This allows PC to phone connection for contacts and calander only. You have to download Motorola Product Support Tool (PST) and install it. This allows you to edit the "CDMA Enhanced Roaming Indicator File" on the phone. The text "Verizon Wireless" gets deleted in 2 places. Restart phone. The date is now there in place of Verizon Wireless. It kind of makes me mad that the stores have this PST software and could have done this all along. Instead they make us think we are waiting for a software upgrade. There are also a...

Mikey00, here are some questions for you. Can you tell us exactly where are the two places you located the "Verizon Wireless" banner so you can delete it? Also, I thought I've read somewhere that if you modify the CDMA ERI, it will affect the way the phone display indicator, i.e., 1X, extended network, roaming, etc. If it indeed affect the display indicator, will it also effect the way your calls are being billed? I could be full of hot air, but I thought I've read somewhere that says you should not do that. If doing what you did does not affect the way calls are being bill, that will be great cause you can locate data cables relatively cheap. Has you do a *228 to update your PRL since you made the change? If so, does the VZW banner came bac...

The file is very small. "Verizon Wireless" is only in 2 places and that is on the first 2 lines. All you have to do is delete the text. I just did a *228 and the date is still there. Also the edit only affects the Verizon Wireless/Date line on the display. The "1x" is still there one line above the date.

Wow, this is really great news for all V265 owners because I think this is the only real PITA problem with this phone that I know of. Thanks, Mikey00 for taking the time & finding a good solution for this problem. Here's a question for you or anyone else in this forum, it is kind of off the topic. My company is finally dumping NextHell & go with VZW. We will be porting all the numbers from NextHell starting next week, & I just found out the phone they've negoiated with VZW is the LG VX4500, we may also get the Samsung A670 if we want, but both phones are all digital & I much preferred a tri-mode phone since my group travels a lot, at times ended up in fringe areas. I was told we can get whatever we want since we will be using this phone for ...

I did a lot of research before getting my v265. The 710 along with some other phones had a much better screen along with other nice to have features (bluetooth, better camara, date display etc). But my main purpose was to have a phone that worked as a phone. The V265 was the best at any price. A lot of this was based on info from others at this site and others like it. I did not have any real life experience with the 710.

I have the v265 and really like it. Great reception. I can have only 1 bar showing and still have a perfect phone call. I have no experience with the v710 though. I have heard it is also an excellent phone. Quite honestly, if money wasn't an issue, I would be tempted to get the v710.

The sites listed in my posts have some links to download PST from. Go slow, read everything on these sites. Get Motorola Phone Tools and the cable working first. Then down load PST and again make sure you read everything on the sites about error merssages, etc you will get while installing the software. After you complete all the steps to remove the banner, the phone must be restarted. This is done from the software. This will all be explained on the sites but I did see many mess up the restart.

Where did you find the Motorola Product Support Tool? Can this tool also unlock the download capability? Thanks.

The sites to download Motorola Product Support Tool can be found by looking on cellphonehacks.com and howardforums.com. This tool will allow the date to display but will not unlock the download capability. There are other tools to unlock the download capability which can be found on the mentioned forums. Be careful, go slow and read everything on these forums before using these tools. They are not the easiest and most user friendly but they do accomplish the task.
I just noticed another thing on my phone. Once the "Verizon Wireless" banner is removed so you can see the date, you can also see "Charging" and " Charging Complete" when the charger is plugged in.
