Small Light Tri-mode?

I am one of the guys who was holding their breath for the Moto V810 on Verizon. It seemed perfect. Do any of you moles out there have any intell on new SMALL tri-mode coming from/for Verizon? I want a 3 ounce phone with decent data compatibility. Camera is optional. I am about to break down and get the V265, but frankly it feels like a brick and has a tiny screen and everyone says the camera is not worth the weight. My Startac hasn't died yet so I can hold out if there is any hope.

You and 10 million other people are looking for that, including me. I didn't see anything new on the horizon so I went for the 265. Your only other option is the v260 on vzw from Radio Shack. It's basically the 265 without the camera. Same dimensions, same weight , same price (well sort of). I didn't think it looked as good as the 265.

Yep, the v810 for Verizon would have been a huge seller. There will be a model similar in size to the v265 but with a 128 x 160 TFT display for CDMA networks sometime in the latter half of 2005. Luckily for me, I have two v810s for Verizon...love the phone!!!!!

I still see v810s on ebay. When you activate them on Verizon, are they fully functional???

No, you will not have full functionality. No BREW, no WAP and other enhanced features. I did not go this route as I have the Verizon software on mine but there are others here who activated the USCC version on Verizon and are able to make and receive calls and use voicemail.

The other point is if the phone was already activated on USCC, then you will have a difficult time activating on Verizon. USCC locks the phone when its activated on its network. If you buy a v810 directly from Motorola, it should be unlocked.

There are unlocking codes. You might want to check the USCC thread on Howard Forums.

Thanks for the reply. Clarify one thing for me please. If I find one with the Verizon software (I assume it is some sort of beta version) will I get FULL Verizon functionality, or will I still get no BREW and WAO?

You will get BREW and WAP and the other enhanced services. If you get one with 23.30.54 or 23.30.55 you should be fine as these are the last two versions of the Verizon software. Even some earlier ones should work fine.

Remember, the v810 was 90-95% percent through the channels at Verizon. Packaging, manuals, etc. were printed for the initial release of the phone. And contrary to some reports here, the phone passed Verizon testing and did so months in advance. The decision not to carry it was partly marketing and partly politics.

Lastly, when you activate it on Verizon, you cannot tell the CSR you have a v810 as it will not show as a supported phone (try v710 or T720, for instance). If you go to a Verizon store, and you have a friend t...

Quite honestly, IMHO, the v810 is not as great as some posts would have you believe. The phone has been around for awhile so the technology is almost 2 years old. The RF is good not great. And always a bit of static in bakground. The small form factor is a plus. The OLED is way too small and is essntially useless, especially in sunlight

I had one with VZW software and sold it. No regrets.

kenstee, I mostly agree with you, though I never have the static issue. But the build-quality surpasses the v265 and (early versions of the v710) and as you pointed out, the size is great...fits in your pocket.

The fact the technology is older means little unless you want the voice recognition and the speed of BREW on the 6100-series Qualcomm chipset. The v810 uses the 6050-series, which is not as snappy as the 6100, but BREW is quick nonetheless.

For those who want a small form-factor and large display, its a solid phone. Verizon would have sold a ton of them. Its a good seller at U.S. Cellular.

Fincher, I'm with you on that. The conclusion I came to is that it needed a software revision. Just like most phones do after introduction. But, since VZW never took on this phone there would obviously never be one for my VZW version of the 810. That played a huge role in my decision to unload it.

Also, it did have a nasty habit of going into analog and refusing to go back into digital without a reboot (again this might have been solved with a software upgrade.) Aside from that and not having the greatest RF (which might also have been addressed by a software revision) and the too small OLED it was as close to perfection as I've seen.

I believe the software was never fully optimized for VZW. Who knows, that may have been the problem w...
