Update on "No Date on display"

I called vzw tech support and they are clueless. I went through 2 levels of tech support and both ran me through some basic setup menus on the phone hoping the date would show up. They finally admitted they don't have the phone or even a manual and I would be better off dealing with the store techs. Next I tried Motorola tech support. Same thing with menus and settings hoping the date would show up. Then put me on hold a while and came back with It's vzw software that doesn't display the date. I think this is correct because I did read that the 265s at Radio Shack display the date until the phone is activated. Next I went to the vzw store. Same deal, poking around in menus hoping the date would show up. The tech then went in the back for abo...

Hi guys, your findings about the date-and that is the date not displaying IS A VZW software issue-is correct. I have an 4-5 year old VZW digital plan and when I upgraded to the V265, IT HAS THE DATE on left top side and the time on the bottom right so it's not a Moto problem. Someone posted a negative review on this phone solely because it doesn't display the date but I think we should all blame VZW's stupidity for overwriting or hiding such basic useful information. It's like making a car that runs fast but you can't tell how fast you're running because the manufacturer decided to get rid of the speedometer. 🙄

If you're on an America's Choice plan, then you will not see the date. There's a more detailed explanation of this but it due the ERI (electronic roaming indicator) that is enabled when on a AC plan. Its possible that a software update will address this but this issue is indeed something that originates from Verizon, though part of the issue is there is not enough screen real estate (128x12😎 to show everything.

I actually go the date to display (but can't figure out how I did it). I started by putting a picture I took as the background, then I changed my banner to just a "space" & about 25-40 seconds later viola...there was the date on the top of my phone. 😳

I haven't ben able to replicate though.

It is the ERI. Go to Phone info -> "Active Line" and activate the one underneath your phone number (should say new or new line). Just hit enter or yes to everything to activate the new line. Go back to the menu and the date should come up.

You are correct that does get the date to display. Only problem is your phone no longer works. Thats because the new line you created is not activated. If you were able to activate it the date would then go away.

I just was pointing out it was the ERI.

recommendation
1) get rid of 265
2) eri enhanced roaming indicator(just wanted to clarify)
3) get rid of moto anything...even tho i like the 710...haha

honestly you can't fully blame moto or vzw...they both knew people would want date...both knew there would be an enhanced roaming indicator...both at fault

kinda funny i just read this now...after i had an issue today about it. lol

I would get rid of the 265 if it wasn't the best verizon phone available. Even the phones costing much more just don't due it for me. The date not displaying is just a temporary problem. A software update should be along soon. I was able to use this to my advantage. I have 3 265s which I told them I would return if software for date wasn't fixed within my 15 day trial. They updated my account to state I have an additional 30 days added to my trial period. This gives me a total of 45 days to return them just in case something better comes out by then. I really wouldn't get rid of the phones just because of the date but if a better phone comes out by then, who knows.

Select the Menu button , then select Personalize, then selcet HOME SCREEN, then selcect Home keys, then up, next scroll down to Date book, then OK. You will only need to hit one button on your phone to display date.

I hope this helps

LOL. I did this earlier as I couldn't figure out how to display the date. It's a good temp fix - requires one button click.

What I want is the date to display on the front LCD. I'm gonna go complain to Verizon - not like that'll help. 🙂

Replying to myself here. 🙂 Just talked to a Verizon Tech (not at a store, but via phone). He said there is no plan to fix this.

I think they will fix it at some point and had him note my frustration. Until then, just use the datebook fix.

So how and when will Verizon notify us that the software update is available? Is it something that can be updated by dialing *228 send?

No. You will have to take it to a Verizon corporate-owned store. When there is an update, the best place to find out is here and Howard Forums.
