V3 and the Cingular merger
If someone's got the time, please explain why the merger date ("Day 1") for Cingular and AT&T would affect the release of this phone to the US market?

"Day One" is the first day of business as the new company, Cingular & AT&T.
Closing day is the day the FCC and DOJ approve the merger.
Closing and Day One can be up to 45 days apart.
Speculation(key word, not verified anywhere) is that Cingular will use the Razr as a marketing tool to draw people into the newly created company's retail locations.

"Speculation" is the key word. Cingular will not wait any more than they have to to release this phone. We really need a few more higher end phones. The release of the MPX220, V3, and the v551 will be a big boost.
I think having a solid lineup going in to the holiday season would be far more important than having a new lineup post merger.
