AT&T and the RAZR V3

Dhan

I've heard contrary to what has been posted here that the RAZR 3 will not just be a Cingular exclusive. It was Motorola's intent that this be offered by both carriers as are most of their quad band phones. What I've heard is that AT&T will also be offering this phone as Cingular is looking to maintain consistency across their user base and they will be absorbing the AT&T installed customer base eventually.

Can anyone validate this or are we likely to hear conflicting data till it shows up on either or both of their web sites?

Thanks

Cingular will have this phone exclusively for 100 days, then others will start carrying. (inside story)

NO they will not offer it to the att users. cingular will require ALL att users to change handsets before they become cingular customers

I beg to differ - No GSM ATT customer will have to change headsets. In fact no GSM customer that uses Current Cingular or ATT frequencies will have to change headsets.

All customers who choose to migrate to Cingular from ATT, including rate plans, must have a new phone. There ATT handsets will not work on our towers. We will be converting there towers to be compatible with Cingular GSM handsets the first three weeks of November pending the acquisition approval.

If what you say is true, how is it that ATT subscribers are allowed to roam on Cingular towers? It wouldn't be possible if what you say is true.

I'm not saying that reception is not capable, i'm saying that they can not be Cingular customers untill they receive a new handset and choose a Cingular rate plan.

This is not accurate. ATT customers will remain in their billing systems but the networks of both carriers will be unleashed. In fact all phones (GSM) will say Cingular on the alpha tags. We will not be converting any towers because Cingular and ATTWS use 850/1900 Mhz in different markets, and SIM cards will function accordingly. However, ATTWS brand will be used for 6 months although ALL the...

It sounds like you are an employee of Cingular also. If you are in the sales channel than you will receive a training on migrating ATT customers either this week or next. In that meeting they outline the dates in which ATT towers will be added to our network and vice versa in waves starting on the 7th of november and then on the 14th and 21st.

When I said "converting" I didn't mean we were changing the frequency or anything but there are areas where we do not currently have agreements to provide service including 4 states in the mid-west that ATT does. Currently Cingular customers roam on those towers but we cannot sell service to customers residing in those states and others.

Already had the training. Once the FCC approves we own the licenses for those states. It is true it will take time to move the ATT brand to the Cingular brand, but they have already assigned representatives to those states to move along the transition. It still won't have anything to do with compatibility issues.

This is so wrong that it makes me think that this is disgruntled employee that is loosing their job or is so out of it, either way this is so wrong for many many reasons that I wont even bother to list the biggest one being that all gsm phones on the 850 1900 will work on Cingular no matter where they came from even if it was Joe's cellular.

Now that was mean, 🙄 Stan promised nobody will be loosing their jobs till next year.!!! 🤣 They just got the initial training....our managers messed our heads up too (we thought it would be like the Dobson Cellular deal) and then when we had the real training--tier II tech explained everything.
