What Makes People Think There Is Going to be a Firmware Update?

The way I see it phone models come and go so fast now that manufacturers have very little motivation to spend time and resources for firmware updates for phones already out there. They'll just fix the software for the next release of a newer phone model. Opinions?

That's true for consumer electronics in general, but Verizon doesn't seem to turn over their phones as quickly as some of the GSM carriers. I guess that's a benefit of a relatively static selection of handsets. I think Verizon slipstreams a lot of software updates -- they are not widely publicized and only applied when a customer reports a problem. I had just gotten the 4th software update for my Motorola V60i a couple of months ago - more than a year after that model disappeared from the lineup. I think that Verizon is an important customer for LG's cellular handset business, so that may be encouragement to "step up". In the end thoug...

Not necessarily so.... LG continues to release software/firmware updates long after some of its handsets were released.
For example, the VX4500 was released 01/04, and a substantial upgrade was recently released at end of Nov.
