ok, i dont understand all this walkie-talkie stuff. Like if i got this phone, and my friend had a Nextel phone, could we use the walkie-talkie thing, or is it only for other people who have this phone? iam so confused...

no this phone will not work with nextel, this will be for all cingular subscribers that have ptt phones. Which now it will be all cingular and at&t subscribers will have push to talk, but you can walkie talkie anyone with a PTT phone.

not entirely true. Cingular/ATT does not at this time support PTT. The z500 will initially release without the PTT software included. The BIG dedicated PTT button will basically be useless until Cingular decides to go with PTT definiately.

As for walkie talkie with anyone with a PTT phone....Definately not true. Any PTT solution released on Cingular's network will work specifically with Cingular's subscribers. You will ONLY be able to walkie talkie with another Cingular customer, who has a PTT capable/enabled phone. BUT the network MUST support it for it to work, which we currently do not, nor do we know when we will.

i was under the impression that the PTT button on the z500 will be put to good use doing something else.. it wont be a wasted button..

i was also under the impression that the only or atleast major reason that cingular has slowed down there release of PTT phones is souly becuase at the moment motorola is sueing nextel becuase the phrase * push to talk * is patented by moto.. verizon and sprint are also involved in this lawsuit in some way shape or form.. i was given this information the last time i talked to someone at cingular..
