Expensive phone

I have seen this phone I saw a trial version for it...it sold for $3500 and some people have already started to sell it for over $4000...I know that it has so many features packed into it, but I don't think its worth spending thousands for it...

$3500? $4000??? Not in this lifetime..I don't care if it had a 5mp camera and video to go along with all the features, I would never pay that much for it..speaking of video, it has NONE..

You have to realize that its basically a tiny laptop.

May be true, but would you rather have this at $3000-$4000, or a laptop at 1/3 the price??

It depends, if in your work you're constantly on the go and don't want to be bogged down with a full laptop then it will work.

At the same time tho, its obvious a laptop can do more than this.

I'm waiting until its released to pass any serious judgment.

I've been waiting for something like this and the only other phone that comes close to the features that the MPx has is the MDA III.

I don't know if the windows based verion of the razr will be made sturdier, but the current version is like a play toy. I can see a lot of insurance claims on that model. The current version has no features for the price. The price has to be just because it's so thin.

I agree Tara I have no desire to own the RAZR..I am completely thrilled with my Nokia 6620 and the things it can do (I am logged into phonescoop replying to your msg with it now) with its 1GB of memory..now if I could only sell the other new one I have..my email addresss is icyhot@charter.net for anyone who wants it..Ken

We (lockline) don't cover the razor, or any other PDA for Cingular. None of our GSM companies insure PDA's. If this phone is carried by T-Mobile, than they may cover it. But the only Clients of ours that cover PDA's are the CDMA companies like Sprint PCS and Verison.

So how could someone get coverage on it then?

Why do they offer the insurance and tell you that you need it; otherwise, you'll have to purchase another phone at your own expense? I got that same pitch from Cingular and insured a Treo, Blackberry, and now MPX 220. Same thing with ATT Wireless. I pay a fee each month and can show you the charge on the bill. That's good nformation to know. Thanks.

The razr isn't a pda. The razr is a normal phone. I see no qualities of the razr that make it a pda. The Razr comming in 05 will be a pda, however this one is not. I was told at the Cingular store I could insure my razr.

it costs 499 that is why insurance doesn't cover it

actually the high price is from the materials used to make it so thin(the actual casing is almost paper thin)

There is no way that someone would pay $4K for a phone... unless they are worth $$$$$$$$$, and that would leave a very limited market for the phone. If it is released... it will be much less than that. I think it is a neat concept... I just wonder how durable that dual folding 90 degree hinge piece is going to be?????

You clowns, the reason its running at $4k right now is because its a pre-release prototype. The actual production model is said to be priced around $900 by Moto.

That's still kind of high... but that confirms what I was saying. Also... don't forget that the cell provider usually gives you a break on the price of the phone when you sign a new contract.

Kind of high? 😳 Are you kidding me it's extremely high! 😲 The most I would pay for a phone is like $500-$600. Not $900+! I think this phone extremely "overpriced"! No camera, video! Also it doesn't look durable at all! I think it's one of the weirdest looking piece of sh*t I've seen lately!

Actually At&t wireless used sell the p800 for 800.00 with a two year aggreeement. Then they did a recall because it had no 850 band and were offering the nokia 3200 or the 3100 as a replacement.

I wanted to chime in on this since I'm a mechanical engineer with about 10 years of design experience (plastics and metal). The first time I saw the RAZR I said wow that's gonna break. I didn't really do a stress test on the hinge to verify but usually when you feel like you can break it by opening it too hard, it's probably not a good thing. Supposedly it's made from titatium. Even if it is the hinge is very small in diameter. The first rule of stress reduction is large radiuses/diameters. The amount force required to breaking the hinge will decrease nearly exponentially the smaller it gets. And by my standards it's too small. Why would anyone pay that much money for a phone that you can literally snap in half if you hit it the wrong way? O...

I have a lap top...as probably do most in the "business community."

But if you travel as much as I, and others, do then you would realize what a PAIN it is to carry a laptop and/or multiple devices in airports these days. Less is definitely best.

But thanks for the advice.

getting a laptop is kind of a silly response to this. however getting a pda isnt 😛 i carry a phone and a pda.. sure it takes up extra room in my pocket.. but so does the 3000bucks difference in price 😛
