Is it possible to delete the Cingular Logo for a faster startup? My phone takes about one minute to turn on and a long period of that is the cingular logo. Or is there any other way to make this phone startup faster?

I do not think the logo makes any difference. It is just a logo displayed during the period where other settings are being loaded.

I tried to move/rename .wav file for the startup/powerdown process because frankly it is too annoying--using OUTDOOR profile, volume is extremely load startup/powerdown--but access was denied. Does anyone know how to hack the process to remove the sound from it?

Thanks in advance.

Make a wav file that's a a split second of silence. Rename that wav file to exactly match those of the startups / they should be something like MOTO_startup and MOTO_shutdown, SIMILAR but not exact. Just go into the windows directory / sort by file type and you'll see a few wavs and you should find the exact file name there 🙂

So when it loads that wav file you'll hear nothing 😁

You probably need to install a registry editor. Look on earlier threads regarding a registry editor that is free to download and install via active sync. If you haven't already, that is. If you haven't my advice is to download the .cab file version to your pc and then copy/paste the file onto your phone.

It seems that no matter how many times that I copy $ paste a new identically named wav file in the windows folder it starts up with that annoying sound. What I don't understand is if I replaced it, how does it keep coming back?

The folder \Windows is recreated when the phone is rebooted. Any changes made in that direcory are therefore lost whenever the phone powers up.

To make more permanent changes to the Startup (or shutdown) sounds and screens, the following registry settings will need to be changed.

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\PowerO nWave
on = 1
(change to a 0 for no sound)
Sound = MOTO_Startup.wav
(you can change the wave file here)

\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sounds\Shutdo wn
on = 1
Sound = MOTO_Powerdown.wav
(same idea for the shutdown)

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Splash Screen
Change CarrierShutdownBitmap, CarrierBitmap, and/or MSBitmap to any 176x220 GIF file of your choice, or leave it blank for nothing at all...

Thanks dchester!
I'll try that when I download and install the registry editor.

Just found out that since the \Windows directory is recreated upon each boot, as mentioned in the referenced thread, any additional audio files that are put in that directory are also deleted upon boot. If you put your desired file in there and rename it to "MOTO_xxx.wav", that file will also be replaced with the canned file upon boot, too. While you can easily edit the registry to point to another file, that file has to reside outside of the \Windows directory so that it doesn't get wiped out or reset upon a boot.

Since I couldn't get the system to recognize the full normal path to the sounds directory (\Storage\Application Data\Sounds) due to the space in "Application Data", I copied my desired sounds to the "\Storage\windows" direc...
