How to get email in outlook while on the road

I use Outlook for my email for work. My company uses a VPN in order to be able to access email on our laptops.

Does anyone out there know how to set-up the MPX 220 to be able to receive my work email over the air?

No one at Cingular or Motorola can seem to give me any insight. I cannot find anything on either companies website, what a surprise!

PLEASE HELP!!!

You might try posting on Howard Forums or checking there as well.

Believe it or not, your IT people where you work are who you will need to go to first. They can say what they are using for VPN software, and then it could be determined if there is something that will run, or be setup, on your phone to allow you to VPN into your campany's network.

VPN allows you to get "inside" your company's firewall (and to your company's internal network (or intranet)). The firewall is designed to keep people (on the internet) out, but VPN provides a way for "exceptions" to this. Right now, it sounds like you are not getting through the firewall.

I can tell you how to get to the VPN setup on your phone, but I can't tell you what to enter in. Your IT people at your company are the only ones that can give you that. There are different types of VPN Servers, plus you will need information, like the name of the VPN server, and the value of any encryption keys if they are required. (This is complicated stuff)

Run the Settings Program (from the Start Menu)
When in settings, pick: Data Connections (on the second screen)
Press the Menu button
Pick: Edit Connections
Pick: VPN Connections

Press the Menu button
Pick: Add

Now you will need the Info from your Company's IT department about what type of VPN server your company uses. (BTW, it is possible that your company uses a VPN ...

I did a little more checking and I found a thread about problems connecting to exchange over at another forum, mpx200.org

http://www.mpx200.org/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=v ... »

Apparently there is some software that your exchange server (where you work) must be running, called Active Sync for Exchange. So once again, you'll need to talk to your IT people where you work to see if they are running this. Apparently there are some bugs in this Microsoft SW (what a surprise), but at least there is a fix for it. See the other thread for more details (or have your IT people look at it, in case you are hitting this bug).

Depends on which version of Exchange your company is running. I'm assuming they're running 2000 since they require you to connect via VPN to check it remotely. (2003 uses RPC over HTTP which eliminates the need for a VPN for secure email authentication.)

If they use Exchange 2000, they will have to install Mobile Information Server ActiveSync.

However, Exchange 2003 has these features built in. You might have to turn on a few options, but they're there.

I use Exchange 2003, and I don't remember having to do any configuring of it for it to work with the MPX220 (I might have had some settings already configured, however). I did have to do a few things t...

THANKS! My phone works great I get my emails like every 10 min automatically.

Snice you (Hattmardy) seem to know everything about phones I had two more quick questions:

1. Does the 1.3 firmware make any difference from the .342 and what is the difference if there is one?

2. Is there any way to make the phone faster and keep it from locking up on occasion when jumping around a lot? Such as utlize my memory card for more then just pics. I do not konw how to utlize my flash card for more then pics.

LOL...

Well, the 1.3 firmware does seem to take clearer pictures than the old one did. Another thing that it fixed was the problem that I had when I'd power it off, it wouldn't power off. It seemed to hang in the process, and the LCD displayed the motorola logo and the keys were still lit up. I haven't had this problem since I got the new firmware. I'm not really sure about the volume issue. I can't tell any difference in the volume, but then again I didn't compare them next to each other so I could be wrong.

As to optimizing your memory card, I have no idea. I haven't even gotten a memory card yet (poor college kid :cry🙂.

Anyone found any good deals on mini-SD cards? The best I saw online was I think $56 for a 512MB, but they w...
