In order to get free WAP -- go to Menu>Mobile Web> Web Sessions> [New Entry].

Tyoe the name you want it to be and the homepage.

In my case, I leave Username and Password blank.

For IP Address, I use
http://wap.crjt.net/ »
which is free if you give them your email address.

Gateway IP: put in the IP you get from Wap.crjt.net
Service type: WAP
Port: 9201

And thats all you need to get free WAP. 🙂

Simply put WAP(wireless access protocol) is a website language that mobile phones understand. By using WAP, you can go to certain websites on your phone (through Mobile Web) and surf the internet. That's as basic as I can get.

When you go to

It asks you to subscrube for $5.00 a month ... Am i missing something.?

This was easy to bypass on the LG as you just entered the 0 & 00000 and then you wap settings

I set mine up this way:
Menu>Mobile Web> Web Sessions
Then highlight the VZW one, hit Menu>Copy
Name it whatever you want
Go to the one you just created, hit Menu> Edit
Change the homepage to http://wap.google.com
Erase the username and password that is there, and also go down and clear out the Gateway IP 2. (So there are all zeros)
Then go to Gateway IP 1 and put in 216.99.207.233

Don't change anything else. THen just launch this copy that you altered. Should work. Also, when you highlight the copy, you should be able to hit Menu>Set default so that when you go into Mobile Web it will automatically go to this free version and not use the VZW one.

Can someone PLEASE provide detailed instructions on how to set up FREE WAP? I'm sick and tired of Mobile Web 2.0, and I'm looking for an alternative.

Thanks in advance.

So if I use the wap.google.com one after 9 PM or on the weekends its free right? Because I have free nights and weekends? Just curious as to how this applies to the billing.

Also I am getting timeout everytime I try. Is anyone else having this issue still? And should the protocal be changed from http: to wap? Thanks.

As free WAP no longer seems to work on the v710 as of today, I was wondering if it would be possible to unlock the phone in order to get it. Anyone know how to do this or if it's even possible? Also, any downsides to unlocking it?

Thanks

Unlocking? The phone is already unlocked as it is. It's not Service Provider Locked at all as you can use the phone on Alltel if you wanted to. GSM phones are only provider locked so you can't use another provider's SIMs. The other thing is the browser lock which is in this case as the VZW is a locked setting but you can still add new entries so it's not locked either.
