Minor difference noted between RS and VZW phone

YES, there is a *MINOR* difference, but it is superficial and doesn't impact the meat of the product. EXTREMELY minor, in fact... but perhaps worth noting.

First off - the firmware is the SAME! To all you knowitalls who heard it would be a different, updated F/W, welp - that seems to be incorrect. "F" version all around. No word from the VZW shop or techs as to an impending update, either.

The camera sensor is indeed torqued on the VZW phones, as anticipated. The Howard Forums work uncovered a manufacturing problem (or purposeful design, we don't know), so we expected this. Looks as though ALL 710's will have this anomoly.

My keypad does NOT shift in it's tray like some have reported from Radio Shack, but I may have been lucky. I ...

There shouldn't be any differences in the phone. The phones are manufactured to the spec requests of VZW by Motorola. Then VZW does the shipping, unless they open the boxes themselves and change each phone, which seems nuts. What exactly is the difference in the camera sensor?

I'll be damned, it is! I just checked it against my PC monitor, and it is tilted to the right. I would imagine that the VZW phones will have the same defect, right? Obviously a FW update wont resolve that issue. Personally I don't think a camera has any business being on a phone anyway, but if you pay for it, it should be right. I wonder if they'll make you give up your phone for 3 months while they fix it?

Hmm, possible to fix the camera sensor via software, don't forget, if your phone is open and the camera is on, it is seeing the world upside down and if you close the phone with the camera on, it sees the world rightside up, so it is flipping 180 degrees via software, it is possible for Moto to shift the camera, of course, who knows if they'll do that...

Guys gotta read -

Gatesjon - that's exactly all I was saying. The only difference noted was the available wallpapers. Hence my desire to make sure that people read FIRST that it was a small difference.

Justnogood - you're right too, and I didn't dispute that. The phone, aside from the above difference, is identical. Same firmware. Same CMOS tilt (camera), same propensity for the keypad to slide in it's tray. Same phone!

Detailing the additional wallpapers, here is an informal list of the different images I found between the RS V710 that I owned last week (and returned due to NE2 promo), and the VZW V710 that I purchased this morning:

"Cosmic" (Yellow/blue whirlpool design)
"Cubic" (Yellow/red geometric design)
"Dyamic" (Yell...

Interesting - I can vouch for the fact that MY RS did not have all those other pictures on board. MOST odd...

Well - if others have it, then so be it!

The only difference is the place of purchase! (and possibly the NE2 promotion)

I stand corrected that RS phones may have the same pics!

I think there may be a bug in the listing. When cycling through the list before, I don't recall seeing all of those, but then again I've never checked as exhaustively as I did for my earlier response. It's quite possible that a bug in the firmware causes some of the pics not to display all the time.

That would make some sense, as users have reported not being able to see A.) All Pictures and/or B.) All MP3's that they have on their Transflash memory cards.

Reports have it that out of 24 MP3's on the card, a little more than half displayed on the phone.

The listing of media sure could be a phone bug!

Those are the same wallpapers and screensavers on my RS phone too. Although my Sharp Edge (anim) says the file is corrupt. Anyone else have this problem?

There could be differences since there is the flash version which everyone here calls the software but is really the firmware version and then there is the Flex version which is the software. They are two different things.
