Emailed .mid file and got error message "Unsupported content type audid/midi"

I read a bunch of the threads on how to email MP3 ringtones to my phone. I followed the instructions. I have a file with a .mid extension and I emailed to myphonenumber@vzwpix.com. My phone received it but when I try to "Open" it or use the "Save Items" option from the menu, it gives me the error message "Unsupported content type audio/midi". Actually the file came across with a ".midi" extension (not the ".mid" extension that it was named on my laptop). By the way, the file size was 358KB and the bit rate is 96kbps. Anybody know what I'm doing wrong?

The cheapest place to buy it is Amazon.com for $33.99 with free shipping. I ordered from them but their expected shipping date was October so I cancelled it. Here's a link.
