The v710 is GPS enabled. With that in mind will an app or download or something be available to use the GPS to provide navigation directions? The i710 by motorola does this with its GPS enabled. Because the would make this phone a super-duper must have

I believe that when it comes to wireless phone and GPS it for emergency use so if you dial 911 they can tell where you are at if they (the 911 op.) have the right equipment. I could be wrong on that though. If you price GPS with a color screen they start at about $275. So I don't think this phone can be turned into a full functioning GPS devise.

I think you're correct, but read the GPS section of the instructions -- The phone CAN be set to send a GPS signal to locate the phone -- OUTSIDE of the 911 GPS feature.

I don;t know where you can use it; the phone allows you to shut it off.

The GPS directions could be available via a get it now download or something along those lines, and I have heard talk of a ver. of Map Quest that would allow that. The big problem that a lot of us would face is in the local implementation of this. Many of us, like myself, live in rural areas, and while your phone is GPS enabled, if the county that you are in does not have full support of the mobile GPS the app would be useless. SO you may see that before too long in major cities and such, but will probable be well after November (The deadline issued by the FCC for all areas to be E911 compliant) before you see any real use.

At least that is my guess on this topic 🙂 for whatever that may be worth.

Yes, and it's called Viamoto.

Moto is saying that the option should be available from other carriers in the 3rd quarter. Right now only Nextel has the option. I am not sure of cost.

When the technology is available, I have a source in Motorola that tells me that it will be able to support full-function GPS apps through GetItNow.

Two upcoming phones will DEFINITELY have this GPS system with CDMA: Both the v260 and the v265 boast their GPS features. Check the links and read the features 🙂 :
