Nokia 6620 reseting itself???

I was just wondering if anybody has experienced the following on their Nokia 6620 (Cingular). On a few occasion the phones backlight turns on unexpectedly and I will notice the Nokia logo on a white background as though it was turning on. It seems like a random reset. What could this be? Does Cingular push software updates over the network that will cause the phone to perform a soft reset? The power button is very difficult to cycle by accident so I don't think its me, and just the other day the phone simply froze on a white background. Bad phone, or is this normal?

Thank you
Fausto

My phone was doing that to me last night, but I was playing with streaming video on an almost-dead battery. Plugging the charger in at that moment seems to have started the process that locked the phone on a white screen. Haven't seen it otherwise.

I have had this problem as well. It seems to occur when I have a non-factory memory card installed in it. I bought a 1-gig MMC card (kingmax), which caused this phone to reboot, and then after I returned it and purchased another 1-gig card (this time it was an OEM with no brand name), and both of these cards enable the "reboot", or even "lock up" of my phone.

Sometimes it will just reboot when I have these cards installed randomly (or sometimes it seems to happen just as I'm starting to receive a call), or sometimes it will half-reboot, and go to a blank screen with a glowing backlight (which stays on till I realize its happened and then remove the battery and replace it again to cold-cycle it).

Have you installed any large or non fa...

I had the same 1GB card you had, and I too put back in my original 32MB and have had absolutely no problem with it..it used to freeze on me 5-7 times a day..I am awaiting the arrival of a 256MB card which cost less than $30, so if I get the same results with it as I did with the 1GB, then I have only wasted $30 and will never again use anything other than the 32Mb that originally came with it..life is so much better when the phone works like it is supposed to..there were many times I was so frustrated because it kept freezing and shutting off..hopefully I have good results with the 256MB..I will post on this forum if all goes well..I usually have a GPRS connection open all day long as well as other programs running in the background, so I re...

Here is something to ponder...when my phone froze up on it's on or when someone was calling, it was due to me having programs open that I had stored to that 1Gb..now, I wonder if only music, pictures, videos and perhaps programs that are not used regularly were stored on the MMC and the programs that are used on a daily and continuous basis are stored to the phones hard drive, would we have any freeze ups...anyone want to share their thoughts/opinions??

I tried much with my 1GB card in my 6620... One thing I tried was formatting the card with the phone (although it seemed to work fine when I used it fresh from the factory already). This didn't keep it from freezing up. Later, after another format to test, I only wrote programs to the built in phone memory. I didn't write a single program to the extra 1GB mmc card. It also continued to freeze up randomly. I did however have phone ringtones and themes running that were stored on the 1GB card, but no open programs. I'm about to order a 512MB Mobiel Storage MultiMedia Card (EPMM/512), and after I get it and its tested for a week or so, just to be sure, I'll report back here and tell how it worked.

I think having ringtones stored onto the memory card of that size was an issue also..

It happened to me and my son just a few days ago. Both of our 6620's just kind of froze with the ATT logo in the foreground and the white screen in the background. ??

A sales rep told me that Cingular pushes software updates over the network which causes the phone to do a soft reset. I don’t know how credible this is because I never heard of automatic wireless updates before. When I was a Verizon costumer you could update your roam list over the network but it was a manual process. My phone has not reset itself in a while which is why I tend to believe that perhaps it was something with the network or the software installed on the default memory card which I replaced.

I have exactly the same issue, I ended up with 4 or 5 freezes yesterday alone. I'm using a Kingmax 512MB MMC card and I think it may be a problem with the bigger cards but not necessarially with Kingmax in particular - more research is needed. BTW my provider is Cingular.

I've just warranty-exchanged my 6620 and will try running it with the supplied MMC card and without any downloaded ringtones etc. If I think I get a stable situation, then I may try backing up the supplied card, reformatting the 512 card, and restoring the known good files to the large card.

Any input on non-supplied MMC cards used with the 6620 and associated issues is weclome.
