I bought the Nokia headset and noticed that the MP3 playback was really awful. Low output, no player adjustments for treble and bass. So I pried apart the headset adaptor and founf that each earpiece is wired to the same two wires.

This is not an MP3 player substitute.

are you sure you have the AT&T 6620 and not the T-Mobile 6600? The 6600 has dual mono, but I can verify from some sound test MP3's I've loaded onto my 6620 that it most definitely is stereo. Which headset did you get? I've tried a few and one of the nokia ones (I can't remember the model number, but it's the one that's readily available in the US) is decent at best, but there's a new model I purchased off ebay from a UK business that is much better. My sister purchased an aftermarket, I'm not sure who makes it, but she says it rivals her iPod. There's different software that allows you a full EQ adjustment instead of the Real Player that's built in. I guess I'm not super picky about the EQ when I'm working out, so I haven't tried any o...

Defnitely the 6620.
The headset is the HDS-3.
What I was really looking for was an adaptor with an 1/8" jack so I could use and headset of my choice.
Which headset do you and your sister use?
I scanned for Symbian based MP3 players and have not found one that allows tone adjustment.

I have yet to see an adapter, please let me know if you find one. When this phone rolled out, I asked my Nokia rep the same question and he didn't know of an adapter, however....
Can u make stuff? If you had a set of Nokia head phones and cut off the ear phones and solder the ends to a female head phone jack. One can sometimes find a audiophile at Radio Shack to assist you on this endeavor. That is if they don't spend their time trying to get you to port over to Sprint or something.

Actually making the adaptor was the plan. Unfortunately I don't know how to make stereo out of the single channel of audio I find in the HDS-3 I currently have. THe problem is getting the plug connector with all the right signals and a pinout of the phone connector. It may be time to break out the scope and start probing around.

I spoke with Nokia today and they assured me there is stereo output from the phone. So did I just buy a knock off HDS-3 that really wasn't Nokia equipment? Perhaps. I ordered directly from Nokia this time so we will see.

I'm not impressed by the Nokia proprietary interface business model. Too few accessories and one level of quality.

Yep break out the scope --it sounds like you know what your'e doin-

as far as the nokia thing--what else offers what the 6620 does? They have to make stuff that works on many levels--sometimes that leaves the audiophiles out in the cold.

I just got the headphones from Nokia and they're alllllllll right!

Looks like those other ones were knock offs, The sound is 1000% better and in true stereo.

Time to get out the dikes and adapt the connector.
