Data access - only through carrier?

I've been reading up on this phone, and I can't find any information on how to transfer information from a PC to the phone. Is there a way to do so with a cable, or is it strictly through the carrier's wireless service?

Go to MyPhoneFiles.com, create an account and you can upload .5 megabytes of pictures on there from your computer and can send it to your phone. You can pay for a bigger account or whatever, but if you want your personal pictures, thats a great place to do it

Any idea how 'secure' this site is? Any experiences from anyone?

The idea sounds G-R-E-A-T!

I was hoping that there was a local way to communicate directly with the phone (USB, special data cable). That way I could transfer ringtones and such without worrying about being charged by Cingular.

motorola should make (or will be making) a data cable that you can hook up directly to your computer. It should come with all the software need to transfer stuff that you want. Check motorola's web site periodically. If motorola doesn't make one(which they have for almost every phone that they have released recently) then you will probably be able to find an aftermarket one somewhere. I've seen a lot of aftermarket data cable for cell phones at CompUSA

That's good to hear. I know you can transfer files to and from the phone via Cingular's service, here in Upstate NY they're still converting the system to GSM which makes it a bit iffy at times. The cable will make my life easier (When it comes out 🙂 )
