Cingular skipping EDGE? Why?
I read somewhere that Cingular was going to skip EDGE and upgrade straight to 3G networks. So, what would be the point of releasing the 6230. That seems like one of its biggest sellin points. I'm currently located in the San Francisco bay area where I heard EDGE is definitely not available...
Is there any truth to this? I think I read it in a forum comparing th 7610 with the 6230.
Thanks.

Cingular is not skipping EDGE. It is currently being tested in 4 different markets at the moment (Detroit, FL, New England States, and one other place). Since AT&T has Edge already where you live, it wouldn't be financially feasable to launch it again. Once the merger is complete, Cingular will have the use and control of the towers in the California markets. Expecet this by the end of the year. I know EDGE is coming to the DFW area 1st quarter of 2005.

Thanks for the info.
So you're saying that I should go ahead and get the Nokia 6230, and then I can wait for the merger to complete and my phone will be fully capable of accessing the web with EDGE? YEAH? AWESOME!!!
oh yeah, does anybody know if I can instant message with MSN and AIM on this phone? I'm mainly debating between this phone and the Motorola flip QWERTY 630 I think coming out. That phone is just too cool not to consider.

haha attws had edge ages ago, we have more test markets for wcdma umts than you do edge, which may have something to do with the value in purchasing our data networks. 😛

well, its a shame that ATTWS won't exist in six months 🤣

actually, attws and it's service will exist at least through 2005. after we release the name att corp is releasing the name back to sprint pcs. get informed, before you talk.
it's a shame that cingular edge expansion is less developed than our umts 3g coverage. wonder why cing is in awe of our data network?
