Voice activated dialing?

When I depress the VAD key to setup a voice activated dialing entry I cannot hear the voice prompting from the phone. I have maximized all the volume settings I can find and still cannot hear the VAD prompting. I connected my headphones to the phone and I can hear the VAD prompting fine. Is this normal? It seems to me I should be able to hear the VAD prompting without having to use the headphones. Is this how everyone's CDM-9900 phone works for VAD? Thanks

Are you talking about setting up a voice activated dialing entry or making a call using the voice activated dialing?

In either case, the prompt will be heard if you put your ear to the earpeice of the phone, or use a headset.

If you want to make a call by VAD and want it the prompt heard over the speakerphone, then you need to press and hold the speakerphone key INSTEAD of the VAD key.

Setting up a VAD entry in the phonebook can not be done with the speakerphone though.

How come the phone does not recognize my voice when I'm using an external ear piece? I hear the command, but it doesn't recognize my voice until I speak into the receiver on the phone itself. Forgive me if this has already been addressed in the past...I haven't been on this site in quite a while. Thanks.

You may have a bad (weak) mic or you may have one that is overly sensitive and picking up background noise, especially if you are trying to use it in a car.

I suggest you try another mic/headset (maybe a friends) and see if that works. Also, try it in a quiet place like your home. Background noise can be a real problem with a headset/mic.
