Got this from FAUguy in another forum if anybody wants to...I tried it and it works.

1) Turn phone On.
2) Within a few seconds type: 289, press left soft key, #, 1
3) "NAM 1 Setting?" Choose Yes
4) Scroll down to "ERI Setting?" Choose Yes.
5) Where it says "ERI Change Enable", type in 0, scroll down a few times to make sure the 0 stays there.
6) Press the left directional key once and scroll down 5 times to "General Settings". Choose Yes.
7) Go to "Idle Banner Settings". Choose Yes.
😎 Type in anything you want...or LEAVE BLANK. Click OK.
9) Scroll down 10 times and get back to "NAM 1 Setting?" Press the Green Vad "send" key.
10) Display will say "NAM Writing". Phone will restart. Whatever you typed in step 8 will show on the di...

🙂 Very happy with my new 9900 but a couple of things bother me. One was the Verizon banner that alternated with the calling number.

Your suggestions perfect and make a great phone better.

It was discussed earlier either in this forum or Howard Forums, back around when the phone first came out, that if you did this, it would mess with your roaming capabilities. You might constantly go in and out of roaming. If this happens, you will get charged for any calls you receive or place, and VZW will know the reason is because you changed the ERI setting. I'm not technical enough to know the logistics of it, but they will not reverse your roaming charges when they see that the ERI has been changed. Read through the entire Howard Forum posting, and you will see the discussion I'm talking about. Damn that VZW with their banners, but I'm willing to put up with the banners if it means avoiding the roaming charges. Just an FYI in cas...

Hey, I'm just stating what I read from others. Plus, I never said anything about being able to roam or not. All I was doing was relaying other people's posts from earlier about changing the ERI settings and VZW not reversing roaming charges if you dispute it. I never said anything about the settings messing with your roaming capabilities. Be constructive if you want to, but be nice about it.

LoL...nonsense? Then scroll back and read what some of the more "knowledgeable" posters on here have said about it. Like beerbaronhomer said, be constructive but be nice. Good grief, the nerve of some of you know-it-all's around here is seriously sickening.

Yea, ok whatever. It really doesn't matter what you guys do with your phones. But accessing the hidden menus and "accidently" hitting the wrong options can ruin your internal settings. Again, it's all up to whoever wants to do those things to their phones. I chose not too. I am in no way trying to stop anyone else from altering their banners, I was just throwing some of the earlier discussions out there...take it or leave it 🙄

fyi, i took the banner off my phone, i then noticed that i was roaming at work which is in the middle of my calling area (Blue Triangle appeared), i put the banner back on my phone then i wasn't roaming at work anymore (Triangle disappeared). I switched the banner back and forth several times at work and at home and everytime i took the banner off i was roaming. One thing I can say for sure is this hack definitely causes the phone to roam more. I haven't gotten my bill yet so i dont know if i got charged or not but since roaming is judged by the phone status, i'm sure i will

Lesson: The rumor about roaming more with no banner is not nonsense and i would recommend dealing with the banner for now until someone fixes this problem. Howev...

Lucky Goldstar (LG) is a different manufacturer, so there would be entirely different procedures for modifying their phones' displays.

Do a search of past postings. This has been covered in detail with all the steps to take.

Be advise though that some people have really screwed their phone up while trying to make this change. Don't know if was the change that did it or they just did not do it properly.

But if you mess it up, Verizon will not fix it under warranty since it is not an approved software modificaton that you attempted.

Be Warned! 👿

What the problem with the VZW banner anyway? It is pretty small after all!

I've seen the instructions for the sequence. What I'm looking for is a way to revert it back to the original banner. Is there a post for that?

The inside banner bothers me not. When trying to view the outside LCD for caller ID the alternating Verizon Wireless there with the phone number is annoying. Which do the instructions take care of? The inside banner or the outside banner?

It actually removes both. And unlike some I've never had an issue with roaming as long as I've had it like this.

🙂 I just got mine back to saying "Verizon Wireless" by inserting just "Verizon" using capital "V" small "erizon". Follow the instructions as usual and when you power the phone back up it will say Verizon Wireless on your display.
