The phone has GSM radios on it so is it safe to assume if you unlock the phone it can be used on other US carriers?

Verizon will never allow it. However, if you ask nicely they will unlock it so it works with overseas SIM cards.

No, it is not safe to assume that. Verizon generally does not allow that with its phones.

While there may be a way to do it, it likely involves a lot more rooting and hacking than your typical "unlock" process. That kind of rooting and hacking carries some risk, and therefore isn't for everyone.
