PTT Android on VZW

Mar 28, 2010, 6:00 AM
For the Nextel fans this phone seems pretty cool, I mean a PTT iDEN Android phone was one of the last things I thought would come out.

But I don't think iDEN and Android will be good for each other data speed wise. Correct me if I'm wrong. If you really want to have lots of 3G coverage on an Android phone you can get one on Verizon.

But what about PTT? You can download an app for PTT that runs over 3G. No it doesn't work like iDEN it works like a regular walkie-talkie. Anyone that's on the same channel as you can hear you, even if they're overseas. Newer updates seem like the developer is trying to go in the direction of personal channels and the like. The paid version will let you use the camera button as a dedicatd PTT butto...

With Sprint having PowerSource phones, I would recommend getting into one of those if you need good 3g data coverage & real PTT iDen svcs - I'm sure its just a matter of time before an Android PowerSource phone is available - currently there is a Blackberry for those who need the smartphone & direct connect services.

We all know that iDen is not the fastest for data - which is why they're pushing the i1's wifi capabilities. Doesn't matter what network you're on if you can browse the web via wifi instead.

I did not know that such an application existed...That is good to know! 😎
