Production Date

I keep reading about the old (initial phone release/produced) phones having serious bugs while those produced later have had the some of the bugs fixed. When I go into Cingular, how do I determine the production date of the phone to ensure I am not getting the original phones? I don't expect Cingular associates to know or to tell the truth. :-)

Here is what I can tell you about phone bugs, I got my phone 3/31 from aws and haven't had a problem with it yet...on the back of the phone, they are just above the bar code by they are in codes, so it won't say nov 04, it would have numbers in it instead, like jj

Same here! It seems that the only people complaining about this phone are the ones with problems. There are THOUSANDS of these phones out there & it always seems that the comments on any page regarding this phone are the negative ones. Also, a lot of the complaints about this phone can be answered if people would take the time to READ their owner's manual!!

Right....reading the manual will fix all the quality problems with the black bezel cracking and chipping and the software glitches and the camera not working.....right on which page is that on again??? 😉 😉 😉

I got my phone on March 31, 2004 & was one of the FIRST 600 in th US to purchase one. I have had NO problems with the black bezel cracking & chipping, no software glitches & my camera works perfectly. I wear my phone all the time - Even when working out at the gym (I carry it in the plastic v400 holster from Cingular). I have been VERY pleased with this phone!

I have two (2) questions for you:

1. How do you treat your phone?
2. How do you carry it with you?

I carry it in my hand and I put it down with care. Don't drop or throw.

Don't have 1 scratch or chip on the phone anywhere from use....other than the bezel chipping. It is a flaw in case you didn't know. It's caused by the flip opening and closing. Apparently it's a pressure point.

Likewise !!!!

I carry my phone in my pocket with care. I've never dropped it, or thrown it. It rings......I open the flip and I answer. I want to make a call.......I open it up and make a call. What happens.........It bloody well chips and cracks !!!!!

As mentioned in another thread, I'm on my 3rd V600 in the space of as many months. My only mistake was accepting this 3rd one. It hasn't happened yet, however believe me it will. It seems to be a fault with the design, and I just can't see how Motorola can change it.

After the second one went back I should of just refused another V600, and opted for a more reliable one. I'm not one to be fobbed off, so I still kick myself when I think of agreeing with the operator to have another one....

I too was one of the first 600 people to own the V600 (and got the free headset because of it). I have nerv once had a single problem with my phone. I keep it in my pocket all day everyday. My girlfriend even dropped it once causing to scratches on the back case (all I have to do is change the caver over the battery) but nothing ever happened to the phone. This phone has been absolutely flawless. I used to post on this site everyday trying to help people out when this phone first came out and all I can conlude is that most people do not know what they are doing with this phone! People! Take care of your phones and you wont have problems with it!

Oh dear, oh dear.

I've just read my post back, and to be honest cannot see where the confusion lies. I shall repeat.

I have never dropped my phone, and I am nothing other than extremely careful with it. When you pay that much for a mobile it kind of makes sure you are careful.

I know exactly what the phone is capable of, so maybe this exempts me from your ' People ' catagory !!!

I reiterate.....I make and receive calls and text messages. Simply by opening the front, after time the pressure has got too much and it has resulted in the front from cracking.....3 X !!!

I have now sent this phone back again, and this time a senior manager has agreed that indeed there still is a design fault with these phones, and that they are getti...

Well - I've had 3 V600 users in my household for 7 weeks. No cosmetic changes to the cover yet at all. All 3 have cases, although 1 didn't for about 5 weeks.

That being said, I don't think a case would help. I have been following this sags for a while now. At first, I just thought it was sour grapes or whiney users.

Now that I have inspected my phone (still no faults), I can see where frequent opening could cause a problem, and can't figure out why it hasn't.

When the phone is flipped open, the bottom outside of the top piece makes contact with the top inside edge (keypad side) of the lower piece. If one slips a thin piece of paper in the gap between the top and bottom pieces when partially opened, and then opens it all the w...

Based on the way he delivers his arguments, I do not have much hope he would understand any of this. You really have to sink pretty low to start a new thread where you openly assault another person. Do as I will do now with that person...ignore his posts...he's not worth the effort and he clearly does not know how to provide arguments based on facts.

That says it all...

Sorry to bring this up, but your argumentation is the one people would expect from a kid. On the other hand, I don't know your age, so maybe I am just right...

It hasn't ocurred to you for a second that the reputation of this phone might be as bad as it is just because it simply is crap? I stopped using mine because it simply was garbage. If you read most of the posts around here, they are mostly about problems and more problems. If you read the review section, again, a lot of the text describe serious problems with this phone. GURU it's taken you 74 pages of threads to decide if you should get the phone???? Who's the retard that can't make up his mind.

Besides again it's a forum and when people ask questions about the phone, why wouldn't anyone be allowed to say anything bad about it. Read my review, when I got it it was awesome....how things turn. The forum is full of the same thing people happy with it then having problems with it.

We're only trying to save you naive ones that didn't get the phone from getting it. Don't know why you start with the personal attacks.

I think you need the life my friend. And to help you make a decision....GO GET THE PIECE OF CRAP ALREADY SO YOU CAN EXPERIENCE IT FIRST HAND AND BE MISERABLE WITH IT TOO!!!!!...

Save yourself the grief. The VXXX line from Moto has problems. The V300 & V600 most notably but everyone I talk to has the same problems. Get a SE T610 or a Samsung E715.

ok so if all the vxxx line of phones are really as bad as potrayed here then why in gods name is do people keep on buying it. the only reason i want it anyway its cuz its quadband and has bluetooth. I dont really care about the mp3 player and all that other crap it has. But why would people keep on buying a crappy phone?

lot of people bought or keep buying it because of everything it says it can do and of it's looks. It's a nice lookin' phone. It's just that Moto quality isn't great and you can read people complaining.

good luck.

1) Michko, you're right. We've had this conversation. The Vxxx Motos are flawed toys. I hereby consign them to the land of folks that don't actually need phones that work and have nothing better to do than screw around with them anyway in spite of it all.

2) Needing a cell phone that works for, duh!, making phone calls and picking up messages wherever I happen to be, I've rediscovered my trusty Nokia 6100 (the new one; circa 2003). It's undoubtly the best phone in existance for actual business use in a strong GSM signal area.

3) Back up phone w/seperate line is now a Nokia 6600 for "evening wear"; use in pubs to allow pictures with which I can blackmail my friends. Also works nicely with my bluetooth handsfree headset and car kit.

I think you are the retard. My V600 worked perfectly out of the box. I've NEVER had reception problems, and what's more, the phone has actually exceeded my expectations in every way. Are they a little overdesigned? Absolutly. But are they overdesigned in all the right ways? Once again, absolutly. If you want a "flawed toy," go get a Samsung phone. Now that's a flawed toy! Dropped calls, random contact entry deletion...ouch! I hope that Samsung stops making cell phones altogether.

People will claim they have problems and some people will always find a reason to complain, but I've had 2 V600's for 1.5 months not with absolutely no problems. No chipping, no scratching. In fact, the surfaces on the phone, although many are metallic, you don't even get fingerprinting on it, which hasn't been the case for other phones I've had in the past.

Functionally, everything is working great. Buy the phone! 🙂
