Problem with Speaker. Anyone else have this problem???

I have had some speaker issues with the Storm 2. All in all, I LOVE the phone; however, if I am talking, and the person on the other line talks at the same time, their voice kind of sounds like a radio frequency. It has a weird tone/humming noise to it.

Maybe I am just dealing with a bad batch of Storms as this is the second time this phone has been replaced and I am still having the same problem.

If someone could comment and let me know if they are/are not having the same problem or if they have dealt with this problem in the past.

The people at the phone store probably think I'm completely crazy.

Nicole, your device has a full duplex speaker phone system which enables you to converse with someone at the same time, as opposed to a half duplex design which requires one output at a time, resulting in a much clearer voice reception, namely because one participant cannot over ride the others' voice.

It sounds like your experiencing ambient noise. One way to diminish this is to speak more directly into your phone's microphone, limit the distance from the device, or try to wait until the other party is finished speaking. The best way to solve the problem is ask the caller if they are on their speaker phone and if so, to get off it. The noise factor should be resolved. 🙄

Wow! Seems complicated!

I did go to Verizon yesterday, and we switched the phone out (again) so I am currently on my 4th storm, and the new one does not have the problem that I had previously been dealing with. I also note that my mom has the same phone, and her's did not have the speaker issue that I had.

Hopefully this is the end of my problems. As said before, I do love the storm!

Thank you for your help!

I did a little bit of research on the full/half duplex speaker system. Here's a question I pose to you... why would it make some type of a "static frequency" noise when two people are talking at the same time? I am just a little bit confused about that.

Thanks for your help stormsurvivor.

From your original post, I assumed your problem was associated to back ground ambient noise interference when utilizing the speaker phone. The 9550 device does not have very effective noise canceling software by design. This technology uses a secondary microphone - away from your mouth - to listen to background noise and filter it out. Please define static frequency noise and at what intervals its generated? Call quality should not be affected with a properly function device. If it generates on every call, the problem is hardware related and not a signal limitation or degeneration.

It only happens when two people are talking at the same time. It does not matter if there is background noise or not, it ALWAYS happens. On every single call when two people talk at the same time. The static frequency noise is enough to drive me bonkers! I am on my fifth storm as we speak, and out of the five phones I had, I did have one phone that didn't make that noise; however, the "end" button was constantly sticking, so I ended up bringing it back.

I am so fed up with the problems with the noise, I am almost to the point where I don't even want to own a phone anymore!

Any suggestions?

Nicole, I've been on this forum for a long time and other than you mentioning this, I haven't seen a post with this complaint. If your on your 5th device and still subjected to this problem, then I feel your signal reception area might be the conflict. For it to happen on one device...defective hardware. But for every replacement, your victim to a bad cell placement area or there is a conflict with your transmitting location. It doesn't make sense that every phone is afflicted with the same malady. I utilize my device from various locations on a daily basis and do not have any problems with clarity of received or sent calls, and I make dozens of calls per day. If this were a prevalent glitch, somebody would have posted the problem in...

I did a little more researching last night, and found that I am not the only person with this problem.

What I have found through my research is people complaining of a "robotic" noise when two ends are talking. Robotic is probably a better description of the sound the voice makes when I have the issue. I had found that it is apparently a problem with the 713 OS (which is currently on the phone). They suggested downloading a Hybrid OS; more specifically, the Lyricidal's 713 Hybrid. Have you ever heard of a Hybrid OS? I am just wondering if there are any ramifications to downloading a new OS to my blackberry.

I consider myself a little "technically" challenged when it comes to things of this nature.

A Hybrid OS is otherwise known as a "leaked" or Beta release. It is an unofficial version of the 5.0 BlackBerry platform. There are ramifications attached to Hybrid OS. In as much as it is a trial version of the authorized 5.0.713, it is not recognized by RIM or Verizon and will subject your device to be in violation of the warranty.

If you "go" Beta, this will be the last Storm2 that you can exchange....

Again your problem appears to be isolated, and the fact it is victimizing you, and you've gone through several devices, lends a thought to your reception area as a possible culprit. I have 7 employees living in Metro N.Y. that have Storm2...713 and none of them have a communication problem with the device.

You can get DL info f...

I think that problem is finally resolved. I downgraded to the official 607 version from the Verizon website, and am no longer having the "robotic" noise with 2 ends talking. Thankfully, I downloaded the hybrid, but never installed it. Going back to the 607 OS seemed to remedy the problem (for now).

Hopefully this is the end of all Storm 2 problems! Love the phone, but was getting REALLY frustrated with it...
