Outer LCD in Souther California NOT displaying VZW?

I have heard from a couple people who got their 8900s in S. Cali that their outer display does NOT flash between the date/time and "Verizon Wireless". Is this true? If so, I may have to order one from Santa Barbara, because that is a HIGHLY annoying feature.

I live is the Los Angeles area and just got my phone yesterday...it does alternte!
