Keeps saying "DROID"

I just got a droid tonight from my son and had it activated. I had it on all night, it was fine. Now , I brought it home and it is charging (still not fully charged) and every once in a while, it keeps saying "DROID". Why is it doing this? I don't have the manual so I cant' look it up....

That means there is a notification on the phone (either a text message, or a weather report, or even a voice message). There could also be a little green light flashing in the upper right corner.
