A Couple Questions

1. Is there a way to search the android market from your computer rather than searching for Apps on your phone only?

2. When using the dock, is there a way to limit which pictures are shown and which ones are not?

3. What are some of the free apps out there that you all recommend?

Thanks... I am picking up a droid today. I am done with my Samsung Omnia. I know that I won't be able to connect my exchange email anymore, but that is okay (my company has security policies that aren't supported at the moment). Any help or suggestions you can provide would be great!

I found this web address to list various apps:

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-applications/ ... »

If you go to "Market" App, it is easy to see free, and most recent apps.

I like "Dolphin Browser".

2. yes there is programs that you can purchase that will "hide" pictures and videos for you that will not show up when you or someone looks through your phone... and it has password protection as well.

There are a few. For instance, Swype. It can be downloaded off of Alldroid.org, and probably a few other sites, and installed using Installer. There's no place in particular to find them as most are on in the Market, but every now and then I do run into one. If your phone isn't rooted already, get to it. Easily the best thing you can do for the droid.

Yea the Droid forum doesn't get much action. As far as rooting the Eris... no, it doesn't seem like you can. I kinda assumed you were using The Moto Droid seeing as to how this is the Moto Droid forum. I did see that there is the Eris 2.1 leak out there though which should be available to you soon 🙂

yes it should be available soon wich led me to my next question if i was going to proceed with this was to ask if it would be worth rooting or if i should wait till the 2.1 update comes out for the eris because rooting the phone just would allow me to enjoy the 2.1 features without acctually having the update correct? you know any cool ideas i might be able to do with the current 1.5 sysetem that my eris has right now??? just kinda getting bored of the same ol same ol ya know? i havent done much with this phone yet other than the normal google maps and stuff like that but i know its capeable of a hell of a lot more i just dont know what to do with it lol thx bud

My new favorite is the PhoneMyPC app. I can login onto my home computer and use everything on it. My next favorite is the wireless tethering for obvios reason.

I'm pretty sure looking over the threads at alldroid that rooting the Eris is possible. You just have to follow the steps for rooting Android 1.5 instead of Android 2.0.

Alldroid is not All Droid as in All [Moto] Droid, it is All 'droid as in All [about] (an)droid, the OS. It's a word play "ALL" droid instead of "An" Droid. there's discussions about G1, N1, Hero (Eris for Sprint), etc. If you can't find step by step instructions for Eris, try looking up Hero. Also, you might try asking some of your questions on the Hero forum here, since Hero is a lot closer to Eris than Droid. (both made by HTC, both run Sense, almost identical hardware)
