I have NO first-hand knowledge, but we're about to sign up with VZW and I've researched the dickens out of VZW's entry- and mid-level phones.

VZW's top RF phone, as culled from MANY user reviews, is the Nokia 3589i, slightly beating out the LG 4400. I haven't seen the v120 or 8600 even mentioned as being able to compete with the 3589i and 4400 RF-wise.

The vote is split on the v60s: some say it's the best RF at VZW, others say it's good or real good, but not the best at VZW.

I was all set to go with the v60s (I really wanted a speakerphone), but the whole 'missed call' issue scared me out of it. Then I considered the LG 4500 for its speaker, but it's not tri mode. So it looks like the 4400 for us....

and finally, why aren't you getting the higher rated nokia phone (i know nothing of this model).

fyi : i did use the v60s for two weeks with verizons 15 day trial policy, and except for the reception in my own home, which is in at the bottom of a hill, accounting for this 'bad pocket' , the reception was great e...

I'm a newbie, so don't sue me if I get some of the finer points wrong.

RF is basically the ability of a phone to find a signal, pull it in, and hold on to it. It pretty much is the major factor for reception, but only as far as getting the signal to the phone. The quality of the guts, mic, and speaker then come into play to make the signal usable for us human folk.

I did a lot of my research at howardforums.com, searching usenet, and surfing the web.

Trimode allow your phone to switch to an analog signal when your leave a digital signal area. Some claim that trimode is overrated, since so many areas are digital; many others claim that trimode is very necesary, as there are more analog areas than you might think. If you go into a...
