Were they on you memory card? If so, check to make sure they are still on there using your PC. If they are, try removing you card from your phone and putting it back in.

Got them back. I'm sure I lost them in my failed attempt to get to o/s 5.0. So I reloaded o/s 4.7 and they all came back. Still can't get o/s 5.0 to load, but I think I will forget about it for a while and live with 4.7.

Your ringtones should have imported to your micro sd card. Your living like a dinosaur with 4.7 as opposed to 5.0. The new OS makes the phone perform like a phenom. Once you interact with 5.0 you'll wonder why you didn't toss 4.7 in the first place. Every aspect, speed, lack of lag, response time, reaction time to involked fields, etc. There is no comparison.

The Original Storm (with 5.0)is not mountains below the new Storm2. It sacrifices the improved hardware and click nature of the devices. I will say this though, for the year that I suffered with that piece of crap .74, .148 non-improvement update of my original Storm. My new Storm2 is "everything" the Drip1 should have been.

I never did smash the thing in frustration, thou...

Believe me, I would like to get to 5.0 and have been trying. But it always gets stuck after downloading 238 of 353 modules and won't go any further. I'm guessing that some third party app is causing the problem. I don't have many. I do use Facebook 1.7.0.18 and wouldn't want to give that up to get 5.0. Do you know what apps are likely to cause a problem for 5.0? I could give up most other apps I have without caring much.

You might try a security wipe. Go to menu/options/security options/security wipe. If you have a corrupted app, this will take care of that. You could always reinstall important apps. However, apps usually do not interfere with a DL of this nature.

Have you downloaded the 5.0 desktop mgr? If you try to install 5.0 from 4.7, it will not work. I've heard of others with your problem. Back up your files first into a folder. Once you've done that, you should DL without difficulty. If you ever move up to the Storm2, transfer of all data on your original Storm is easy. Remember at the point your DL freezes might take a long time but continue.... 🙄

Go to menu/options/security options/security wipe.

After "security options" I don't have the choice of "security" or "security wipe."

I fired up my old Storm to see if the fields on my Storm2 were different...not the case.

From the options menu click on security options. There will be 5 fields to select from. #5 is Security Wipe. Click on that and Security Wipe choices to fill your screen. Check off User Installed Applications. REMOVE the check by Emails, contacts, etc. or you will have to reset all email accounts and parameters.

You will now be required to type in the word Blackberry in the default blank field to confirm the application wipe. Make sure you've detailed your locations for reinstalling the lost apps and that you've backed up your files on desktop mgr.

See if this partial "bricking" eliminates a corruption interrupting your DL of 5.0. If the pro...

I don't have those selections. When I go into options and select security options I get the following 10 selections:
General Settings
Application Permissions
Certificate Servers
Certificates
Firewall
Key Stores
Memory Cleaning
Software Tokens
TLS
WTLS

I've gone into each, but there is nothing that says Security Wipes.

The Security wipe must be a feature specific to the 5.0 build and not on 4.7. Your best bet is to reinstall Desktop Mgr. 5.0 from the Verizon Web Site and try again.....

Tried downloading 5.0 desktop again last night, but got the same result. Download died after 253 of 358 modules. I think I'll just live with o/s 4.7. Maybe I'll go the storm 2 in another year when I;m eligible for an upgrade. Thanks for your patience and suggestions. I appreciate your help.

I'm sorry your having this problem with the DL. You might try to obtain a 5.0 disk for the Storm 2 from Verizon. Perhaps that would solve your difficulty. There could be a corruption in your 4.7 Desk Top Mgr. Good Luck! 😢

Thanks. I tried the link and downloaded and installed the latest DM. It seemed to go fine. But when I tried to use it to download the device software, I got the same result. After downloading 258 of 353 modules, it freezes up and after sitting there for a half hour or so, it gives me a message that says there is something wrong with my internet connect, and forces me out.

You have a few options. Try DL Dsktp. Mgr. from another computer. This assures you no internal corruption is in your Desk Top. If you still run into the conflict, then you should have reasonable grounds to obtain a replacement phone from Verizon. Your Storm was designed to upgrade to 5.0. I did mine the day it availed, with no problem. When the Storm2 becomes an option, go for it. Its quite a bit better. As it now stands. your certainly entitled to utilize this device with the better OS, which is markedly more productive and was made available on Oct 28th.

I would give them an earful! Why should you be inhibited from performance that should have been from day 1? If they disagree, demand an upgrade to the Storm2.

The 4.7 is so ...

Made some progress today. I used the DM to remove some apps, including Facebook. Now when I try to download 5.0, I get to 301 out of 346 modules, instead of the 258 of 353 modules I was getting before. Will try again tomorrow, but I'm running out of things to delete that might help.

Glad to see your making progress. Its puzzling you have this conflict. There is a glitch in the phone. I would think you have sufficient grounds to demand a new phone. If apps are causing the problem, the registry is infected and a DL to 5.0 will carry negative activity in the new OS. How could Verizon oppose you in light of this experience?

Took the phone to Verizon this afternoon. They tried to load 5.0 but couldn't. So they gave me a new phone. They offered the new phone right away without my having to make any demand. They were very helpful. I have no complaint. The new phone with 5.0 seems to be very responsive. I do have to rebuild my calendar, but that's not a big problem. Didn't have much scheduled.

Thanks for your help during my ordeal.

I'm glad your getting a new phone. This "campaign" was like a soap opera! 😁 Remember, I went through this kind of stuff as an original Storm Owner from day 1. The glitches and frustration on a daily basis (every day something else went wrong with the freaken thing)drove me almost to the brink. But I was determined to be the Storm Survivor! No logic, press a button and the phone would lock, crash, lag, freeze, go into and out of a coma, etc., became a mere "bag of shells." The only surprise was when it actually worked! 😲 I do give it one kudo, The device never reacted to the multitude of curse words and venom thrown at it. 👿

You'll like your new Storm. 5.0 is the bandaide. Rim in its "generosity," released it 2 days before...
