An update to the current Storm operating system (which shipped as 4.7.0.65) has been leaked in the crackberry.com forums. The new update will be version 4.7.0.75.

It's an .exe file that has to be installed via Desktop manager. Release date is scheduled for Dec 5th

Read about it here if you are interested in installing now. There are 24 pages on this thread and people are reporting that it fixes lag issues. An insider got the ok to leak it. It is a carrier version of the software. I assume it's still Beta until it's release

What I noticed:

-Performance seems to be better in general
-Accelerometer lag is noticeably reduced. Going between portrait and landscape modes is MUCH better
-more accurate emailing/texting
-browser is faster
-camera bugs on mine nearly fixed (flash still doesn't time right sometimes)
-lock and unlock lag is improved

This is a major update folks.

It has to be downloaded on a PC
then the .exe file run
The file will then transferr to Desktop Manager
Start Desktop manager and do the update from it
Takes more than 1/2 hour so be prepared

I and a friend both downloaded the updates last night. Another friend cannot yet since he is on Mac. Hopefully OTA will be available soon. It took 25 minutes on my phone and was easy to do. It only took 10 minutes on my friends for some reason.

Results?
-The lag while opening applications is a little shorter but still much longer than it should be.
-The accelerometer is still slow but does not seem to flip the page at random anymore.
-Camera still has issues
-Phone still locks up (twice today already on mine)
-Boots up faster
-My friend says his bowser is faster but it was already fast on mine.

This just seems to be a slimmed down version of the original software with a few patches and not a true new software version. This is a...

I agree the lag, while improved still needs to be shortened more

In the forums at crackberry.com they seem to think the OTA updates in the future will be small "patches" to current OS versions. More involved updates I am thinking will go through desktop manager...who knows.

I didn't expect this update to fix every issue out there but I am glad progress is being made at least. Still more work to do to address bugs

One ray of sunshine from this update is that they did manage to improve the accelerometer issue to a small degree. Which means the issue is software and not hardware. That means that once they release a truly "new" software, and not a scaled down and slightly debugged version of the old, they should be able to fix the problems. Look for that sometime in february.

The accelerometer issue was driving me crazy. It would flip almost randomly from portrait to landscape and it would be difficult to get back where it should have been. It's better like you said, but still not perfect by any means.

I am thinking its a software issue at this point also which is a relief to me

To the Blackberry lovers, this update is a god send. For all of the others who were expecting I don't know what, do us a favor, get another phone. All the whining is getting old! This phone is not a toy..please understand that. Blackberry could fix everything and there will still be whining in the background. Pretty soon you will see arguements that the color is crappy or that the phone is too heavy, etc, etc.
The bottom line is that Blackberry responded very quickly with an update unlike some other fruit phone that still has problems.

Patience will go a long way in satisfying your cellphone thirst.

In summary, this phone works very well right now with the new update, very little arguement there.

It's a little sad that you couldn't actually think of a valid retaliation so you jumped right into demeaning someone's possible livelihood. First off Verizon Wireless employees get paid a pretty decent amount (about 3-4 times minimum wage depending on where you live) considering there is not too much required of them, but that brings me to my second point which is that they are in fact not paid nearly enough to deal with people like you who seem to think that you are better than every other person in the world and make it very well known. I'm sure you are that person who thinks that you shouldn't have to wait on line to be helped or god forbid pay for your new phone that's assuming you are actually even eligible (which you never are). What i...

I also installed the update yesterday and have been messing with it all day it seems any lag issues I had have almost disappeared and now I can use the lock key, without freezing my screen into portrait or landscape whichever it was locked in. One thing that still needs some updating is the camera this things takes way too long to take a picture. probably 3X longer than my curve, and for having 1.2 more mega pixels I am not very impressed with the quality either.

Thanks... How much better did that comment make you feel about your $35 data plan? How much better did it make you feel about your chances of that promotion? How much better did it make you feel about the possibility that I will be selling you your next phone oh wait i forgot you just spent all your money and upgrade on trying to feel good about yourself. Live on man because I will always be around the corner laughing at your brilliant posts!
P.S. the Storm will be 99.99 in January with half the bugs.

First of all genius, I pay $29 for my data plan...the same $29 I've been paying ever since I started using a Blackberry on Verizon. Big deal.

And as for the cost of my storm, well I actually technically made money on mine. Here's the breakdown:
-$149.99 for the Storm with my NE2 Upgrade credit
-less a $50 mail in rebate
-less a $100 bonus from work for the phone
-less a $25 bill credit for late shipping

So, in conclusion, even when I include tax, I still made $10!

As for the rest of your comments, well, since you made no sense, I won't even bother with them!

where do you work? Shocked Good deal!

To be fair, the bonus wasn't officially meant to go toward the phone, but extra money is extra money! So as far as I'm concerned, it took care of the phone for me!

But to get back on topic here, thanks again for sharing the info on the update Hawkeye! I'm very happy with the difference it's made! The lag is practically gone! Can't wait to see what future updates may do!

Glad I could help!
Made a big difference with me as well as most people. Not all issues are fixed but at least RIM is standing behind its products like I expected it would.

I said something nice about the Storm 🤣 Every time I do the trolls come in and start bashing...the ones that like it like me after all probably work for VZW or RIM or are paid to have no life on here writing nice things 🤣 🤣 🤣

😁 WOW! Got the new OS version installed a little bit ago and I'm both amazed and excited at the difference! The lag has been significantly reduced!
All I can say is way to go Verizon/Blackberry for listening to all the feedback! They heard the complaints and acted fast! I'd say it can only get better from here on out...too bad for all the whiners who did quick exchanges to get rid of the Storm...some may very well end up regretting it!
Oh well...
