Response to ATT 3G Problems (And Apple's Bizarre Behavior)

I posted this originally on the Apple forums, and they immediately took it down. (This is the 2nd time a post of mine was removed from the Apple forums. I had previously posted a heartfelt complaint and question about iTunes, received a response, thanked the person who was trying to help me, and stopped subscribing to the message. A while later I was informed that my thread was taken down because it had turned into a rant, and suggested that I had framed my original posts in a way that made the rant more likely. Both times Apple has taken down my threads, I received a "make the most out of iTunes" and a "make the most out of your iPhone by getting apps" emails. Freaky.)

Anyway, this is a serious question about Apple 3G network availabilit...

There are INDEED many who feel like this. Most will not make comment because it will be the same to them as "bashing" the iphone when in reality it is definitely NOT!
All phones have their ups and downs, i just wish people would be open and honest about BOTH........LOL
I do not hate the iphone. I had it for 2 weeks and it is just simply lacking as a phone and those that complain about the ATT network are 100% correct.
Why do peeps take these comments so serious? Especially if they are indeed true! Call an apple an apple and a sour grape a sour grape......jeeeeeessssssshhhhhhh.
I have the LG Dare and love it but it has some crappy features............i admit it. Doesn't make me an inch shorter....LOL

I definitely don't have a problem with the iPhone. It's an incredible device, and having skipped the first generation iPhone, I've been thoroughly blown away. I dislike some aspects of having the phone, and there are some annoyances, of course, but the one over-riding issue is reliable 3G data access. When it isn't working, the iPhone is so much less useful that it just makes you really upset. What I don't like is that when I visit NYC, the connection just drops out randomly in the middle of the sidewalk in lower East Side Manhattan. What I don't like even more is that people who live in NYC have to deal with that every day.

Anyway, thanks for your response.

what's the point of paying for 3g when it doesn't even live up to it's potential? I live in chicago down town area, and I have the worst voice coverage! I'm going back to tmobile. This phone rocks but att blows bull balls. Worst decision I've made all year! I say we all protest and get our money's worth!!!!!!

The following is quoted from appleinsider, com

"Behind the iPhone Software 2.0.2 fix to reduce dropped calls

The recent iPhone 2.0.2 software update addressed a problem with the iPhone 3G's power control that was causing dropped calls, according to a new report.

Last week, Apple's Jennifer Bowcock told USAToday that “the software update improves communication with 3G networks.” However, Roughly Drafted is now reporting addition details from "a source close to AT&T" that explained what the real issue may have been, and why some users didn't notice any immediate impact after installing the iPhone 2.0....

Thanks for posting that.

My current view is that clearly Apple and ATT are fighting. Apple set up firmware 2.0 to run the network in one way. ATT at some point realized that they were overselling their network and told Apple to throttle down the Pandora Radio and other data intensive apps by cutting down on the "power" of the phone.

I think it's important to point out that this is a source attributed to ATT. This "problem" that is in firmware 2.0 is not the reason why ATT oversold their network in places like downtown NYC or downtown Boston. Their admission that they need to work on their "metrics" and get more towers is their indirect admission that they oversold their network. They had no problem setting up the enormous subscrip...

I don't know if anyone has noticed this, but the frequency of app updates has dropped like a rock. Everyone is waiting for the next patch or something.
