Just to clear up any confusion floating out there I work for AT&T and we have little more information than the general public about the iPhone release.

Provided at www.att.com/iphone

What will I pay for iPhone 3G?
If you are upgrade eligible and your account is in good standing, you will pay $199 for 8GB (black) and $299 for 16GB (black or white). Two-year contract required.
Upgrade "eligibility" is based on how long you have been in your current contract and other factors. If you are the primary number on an account you can be eligible as early as 13 months into your contract but depending on your rate plan, payment history and other factors you may not be eligible until 18 months or even 21 months into contract. Most phone lines...

Thanks for the helpful info. I did want to clarify your statement regarding the discount on the data plan. This is for sure? I just spoke with an employee at a corporate store this AM and he stated that he was certain that discounts will apply to the voice portion of the monthly bill, but it had not been confirmed if any discount will apply to data.

YES the FAN discounting will be applied to the data on the new iPhone plan but not the old one. I have confirmed it with multiple people. The information is also available on the AT&T site somewhere, cannot remember where I read it. Hope that helps!

Since the data plans are exactly like the pda/blackberry plans the FAN discount will apply to the $45 enterprise plan only! The basic personal for $30 does not qualify for this discount! The same applies for BB and pda units.

FAN discounting applies, basically, to anything $30 or higher on the plan.

So basically:

rate plan (primary line only)
PDA/BB/3g iphone data
family text

And of course, the smartphone data+text (or tethering, or whatever)

As long as it is OVER $30!

Here is the information to prove it.. Your "FAN" discount applies to the rate plan and the data plan on the primary phone line only. 😁

"(x)% discount off the monthly service charge of your Corporate Responsibility Users’ (CRUs) eligible voice and data plans priced at $34.99 per month or higher when you have 5 or more wireless users (including one CRU) associated with your AT&T Mobile Business account."

FAN discounts can
(not in all circumstances, though) apply to data.

According to CSP it does.. I do not get a discount on my plan since I receive free service so I do not know from first hand yet CSP provides the information that we give to the customer and states that the customer will receive a discount on their voice and data on their primary line.

I just got off the phone with AT&T and was told even though I have a existing iphone I will still have to pay 399 to upgrade because I am not eligible for and upgrade until after the release date. So what is the real deal because in your post it says if u have a iphone already u can pay 199.

The bottom line is that because you have the old iphone you WILL be able to get the new one on or after July 11th for the 199 or 299 price. As I work for att the people over the phone will NOT sell the device out at all and will refer you to a local store. Check your account out online and it should already be checked on and eligible for an upgrade.

The system has to have the iphone IMEI # registered to your phone # in order for it to be eligible for an upgrade.

For anyone that is using another phone they need to call up att customer care, register the IMEI info to the agent on the profile and you will be eligible for an upgrade...simple as that!

Yeah no carrier will really insure any phone above $300 because it is just not cost effective but we have a work around with a different company.. It costs $69.99 for one year or $119.99 for two years which is actually insurance not APPLE CARE which is only an extended warranty. Warranty does NOT cover any physical or liquid damage.

AT&T no provides insurance on every phone we carry other than the iphone and go phones!

The insurance deductable goes up:

normal phones like a RAZR or Samsung 737 has a deductable of $50

Blackberrys, blackjacks, etc have a $125 deductable!

Don't know what they consider "eligible", but I stopped into ATT today to ask about an early upgrade price. They told me no such thing. I just bought my phone in Feb '08. When they ran my phone number, I was told I "WAS ELEGIBLE" for the upgrade price. Don't know how they arrived at that decision, but for $199, I'll buy it and smile.
