I wonder if I activate an old iPhone today or before 3G comes out, do I pay the old data prices and will my data plan price increase after that?

Also, I am wondering if you will be able to activate old iPhone's thru iTunes after 7/11?

the old data prices will always remain the same I believe. I think the 30 bucks is only for the 3g iphone.

It says old pricing will remain 'for the present'. I am sure att will find a way to jack it.

OK..so here is my deal - I loved my iPhone, but like a dope swore I would have a new one on 6/9. So I sold my old one and now I want it back. So, I purchased a "like new" iPhone on E-Bay for $320 with the shipping.

I really think I will be able to sell that one and not take a huge bath once I get the 3g Version.

Was that a dumb move on my part?

Oh well...I will hope that there is some reason somebody will want a first edition iPhone. If I can sell it at a reasonable price, I will.

You should know better. Never trust Apple. They lie thru their teeth.

I believe at the "PRESENT" time prices will remain the same, but you can bet come 7/11 rates will be the same for everyone across the board. ATT said they will not make a profit until 2010, i believe that's in part to the ridiculous revenue charing deal ATT has with Apple. So they have no choice but to raise data fees for iphone 1.0 owners. Besides, ATT 3G coverage is not in half the country yet and the limited areas that do have 3G are spotty at best!

Thats not entirely true. even though after July 11, data packages for iphone 3g will be $30, custy's who own 1.0 iphones will still only pay $20 dollars. I think all of this is a big joke. I think its a load of you know what that the rates go up b/c after they release 2.0 for the old iphone, they with be almost the same phone with a different look! So now, you will be paying $10 more a month for 3G access (thats if you are even in a 3G capable area) and GPS enabled (mind you even though it GPS enabled, doesn't mean the GPS service will be free!) The next time someone gets to talk to Steve, kick him in the boy's for me!!!

And there is my hope! I am hoping that I can sell this phone down the road for just a little under the $320 I paid for it. Hopefully the data plan does in fact stay at $20 for 1.0 iPhones. With activations happening only in a store maybe people will just find the old iPhone more appealing. Plus, I agree 100% - GPS will not be free.

I really am not sure everyone will want the 3G. As I stated, I just purchased a V1 iPhone and paid $320 for it with shipping - it looks brand new!

Look at these, the are selling for $380 and up used on E-Bay right now.

Why do you think people are spending so much with the 3G coming out in less then 30 days for far less?

This one sold for $395.00
