and will it work on ATT, since it says WCDMA 850? I heard em say they will convert certain markets to that frequency, like smaller populations w/ less than 5 mil.

The specific version announced so far would not be picked up by a US carrier, but...
1. You could import it unlocked, and it would work well as a GSM phone here.
2. There were rumors at one point about a US-specific version yet to be announced. I'm not sure if that's still in the cards, but it's possible.
