Goggle Maps......

Has anyone tried to download Mobile Google Maps and use it with the 6650?

I'm just wondering if I can use the Mobile Google Maps with the GPS feature without being charged for using ATT Navigator.

Thanks.

Just a couple of questions. Did you use the Nokia suite to download "mobile Google Maps" and do you think you'll get charged for using the GPS function?

From everything I've read, it sounds like the 6650 Fold has a stand alone GPS reciever and we shouldn't be charged.

Just checking before I download. Thanks a ton.

Oooops, I just went back and read that the 6650 uses "GPS A" technology.

A-GPS
(Assisted GPS)

A type of handset-based position location technology. To determine location, the phone takes readings from both GPS satellites and nearby cellular base stations (towers), with the help of a location server on the network.

The location server on the network is required to tell the phone which satellites to look for, and also to perform the complex calculations that provide precise location information.

This technology generally provides better accuracy than GPS-only and network-based technologies. A-GPS also works in places where GPS-only technologies do not work well, such as dense urban areas, inside buildings, and in moving cars.

Yes Google maps works good on the 6650 but it uses the internet for the mapping,at least for the satellite/street views. It's less than a 2M application file on your phone. GPS works great, fast if your outside. It's within a few feet of being exact. Zooming in on the satellite view will show how good it's working. Also tells you how many satellites it's using to locate you. Setting up a trip from one point to another works good too. Went to google mobile, send yourself a link, downloads to your phone, easy. Can't download Nokia Maps due to no phone support in Nokia Maploader and possibly conflict of interest with AT&T Navi.....The $15 a month for Media Unlimited seems worth it with POP.IMAP email support. Opera mini 4.1 works good too.

So I guess I need some sort of media plan in order to use the GPS function of the phone. I was hoping to stay on the cheap for just a little bit longer.

Thanks for all the info.

I read this thread with interest, but I am still unclear as to the answer, so let me ask specifically:

If I have a 6650 and have the NetMedia $15/month plan, can I use Google maps to have a GPS function on the 6650 without also paying for monthly GPS service?

Of so, and as I am not really familiar with Google Maps, what GPS functions would I have (e.g. street views, directions, etc)?

Thanks!!

I still haven't bit the bullet and signed up for the data plan so I can't answer your question. Sorry....
