does that mean i can put my phone in such a state that will only allow certain contacts to reach me? or can i set it to block certain numbers? i want a phone where i can do this and block all incoming calls, but still alert me that they called. i want them to go straight to voicemail, but i still wanna know who called from what number. and i also need to block all calls and only recieve texts sometimes. but i stil need a notification as to who hit me. any body got anything on this?

i thought VoiceMail lets you know who called from that number? "You have 1 saved message, to listen to this message please press 1. New message from (224) 123-4567" ๐Ÿคจ

with the sanyo's, call screening is kind of like an answering machine. it goes to a voice memo instead of voicemail. you set it to answer after a certain number of rings and then it will say something to the affect of "please leave a message after the beep" and you can listen to what the person is saying while they are leaving the message and you can choose to talk to them or just let them leave a message. kind of a neat feature i suppose.

Yeah and it gives the person only 13 sec to record a message. I miss Sanyo and the call screen feature... ๐Ÿ™„ Btw the new pro series phones are ugly to me.

If you simply don't answer incoming calls, all cell phones have a call log that will tell you who called. You can set the ringer to silent if you don't want to be bothered.

What this Sanyo "call screening" feature does is replace voicemail. People leave messages on your phone instead of the network's voicemail system. It's the same for callers, but because they are connected to your phone, you can hear them leaving the message. If it's someone you want to talk to, you can interrupt the message and pick up the phone.

So basically, it's like having a built-in answering machine on your handset?

I'm assuming then that the number of rings could be set to intercept the call before it gets ...

I've noticed "Call Screening" on other phones too. Is that exact feature Sanyo specific or is it identical on other models/carrier devices?

I've never seen nor heard of it on any other brand of phone.

Other phones have caller ID, of course, but that's different.

Rich, I can confirm its a Sanyo exclusive. I met with a Sanyo rep last week and played with this phone. It is something that Sanyo owns the technology to -- and Kyocera since the buyout -- and will only be on their branded phones.

"does that mean i can put my phone in such a state that will only allow certain contacts to reach me?"

That is a feature of regular Nextel phones that operate on the iDEN network. The Pro 700 is a pure CDMA phone even though it is branded as having Nextel Direct Connect; they are now using the Nextel name for all push to talk features regardless of network. Any regular Nextel phone except a Blackberry has the feature you want.

To add to what you said, this phone uses QChat. QChat is the new sub-second PTT that Sprint is rolling out, and its FANTASTIC. Uses Rev.A data speeds to make it work, and works both with other QChat phones, as well as Nextel phones seamlessly. We went from this phone to an old Nextel Blackberry, worked flawlessly.

from my understanding all of the specs say qchat, but sprint is marketing it as NDC on sprint...(nextel direct connect on sprint)

it's kinda like VOIP, it uses a data connection, therefore it is only available in rev a markets.(i don't know exactly how many there are but i would guess 14 or so) the neat thing about NDC on sprint is that your dc number is going to be your cell number instead of some other crazy number that no one can remember...143*000999*34.

i am counting the days till i get rid of my 335, i love the ptt but nextel motorolla phones are not very user friendly.

hopefully this service will be available on all rev a devices, sprint customers have no idea the convenience of the ptt function...ready link was a JOKE!

ARE YOU DAFT OR WHAT...?????

IF YOU SIMPLY DONT ANSWER THE CALL, YOU WILL
GET CALLER ID, SO YOU KNOW WHO CALLS, AND SINCE YOU DONT ANSWER THE CALL IT WILL GO
TO VOICE MAIL SHOULD THE CALLER WISH TO LEAVE A
MESSAGE......

YOU NEED TO GO BACK TO PHONE 101 AND LEARN HOW TO USE A PHONE DAFFY.....

GEZZZZZZZZZZZZ.... WHAT A DOPE....
