Internet signal for nav?

I have wondered for a while now, in order to use thegpsnavigation on this phone, do you need anInternetsignal for the maps to load or are they a part of the navigation program. I would like to know for those times that i travel too far north for full sprintfeaturesbut still wantgps???

It uses GPS satellite...when youor Sprint signal is dead, the nav still works. I've tested this several times while driving thru the lowcountry in SC. Nav never hitched.
