GPS + other questions for someone new to using a blackberry

I have heard mostly from this site that the GPS navigation built into the phone has been disabled for Verizon. 1. Is this true? 2. Is there a way around this (I am currently paying for navigation with my razr, but I am getting the pearl on tomorrow -- yay!!) since I would rather not pay for navigation since I'm gonna have to pay for email/web. Any advice on this as well as overall suggestions for someone about to be new to blackberrys would be greatly appreciated (i.e. what other software/programs I might need or would helpful -- I want to sync it with my mac, but not just for that) Also, does anyone know if I can sync the phone such that I can use the web from my phone to get on the internet with my computer???

GMM (google maps) won't work on it but others will such as windows live. But you need an external bluetooth GPS puck to get the map to show where you are. You can pay 2.99 per day for VZ nav on it also

you can use as a modem, but VZ charges $15 per month for that. There is a program called sharkmodem that might work for a one time fee.

... or if you're going to use gps for travel frequently you can pay $9.95 a month for VZN instead of $2.99 per day.

Vz navigator is really a good easy program but it is not free as you already know.

You should check out blackberryforums.com for more info on blackberrys. There are a ton of areas to go into.

Software I recommand Maufait it is free gives you a ton of information in your area just by setting it up to your zip code. Movies, atms, weather, news, flights etc

Espn- no explantion need on this one free also.

Depends on what you really need.

I love my 8130 just switched from the 8703e and the 8830 to 8130

enjoy

(copied from my reply to "Voyager or Pearl" earlier in the forum from Sat 11/24)

The tethered internet on the Pearl is FAST! I have been very happy with it. I got 885K down on a speed test last night. It is only $15mo on the Pearl, however, Verizon wants you to add the FULL data plan for $60mo onto the Voyager to do this! Insane!
