Cheap plastic?
I was able to handle the Black/Pink Venus today as one of my co-workers had just upgraded. There was no denying how handsome the handset was when the slider was closed and viewed from the front. Looking at the sides and back though I couldn't believe how cheap the phone looked. Even if all cell phones are still made mostly with plastic, I can pick up most of them and not immediately feel "cheap." Any thoughts?

I have to agree with you on the cheap plastic feel. I think a lot of the problem was the horrible decision to go for the fake leather look on the back of the phone. Why you would want a high tech touchscreen phone with the look of a cheap chinese wallet is beyond me.
The plastic just comes off really cheap feeling and looking and doesn't mesh at all with the "hi-tech" image. Ideally some brushed metal would have been nice, but even a nice smooth plastic back would have been better.

I'm totally in agreement with you, and glad that I'm not the only person that picked it up and went "what the hell?" For a quick fix, you might be able to glue the back of an iPhone to it. I don't want or need an iPhone, but at least Apple got the brushed metal down pat.

The soft plastic GRIPS really well...could set it on the car's dashboard, I think. And it doesn't slide out of your hand. On the other hand, the screen is really fragile, easy to smudge and scratch.

I like the grip on this phone. I think peeling paint looks a lot cheaper than the back of this phone. I haven't dropped this phone yet and I usually drop phones b/c of the brushed or other metal...Buy a screen protector or use the little sleeve that came with it for the front - works great.

I was very close to buying the Venus but you're right. It just felt so cheap. And I also didn't like the fact that only the bottom screen was touch. That also felt cheap to me.

NYYGIRL: if the bottom screen is cheap then u need like an 80's 2 pound phone...i have the phone and the phone does not feel cheap to me and is pretty durable

yeah this phone is definitely not cheap. i'm very happy with it. touch screen is great, very responsive- turn it off and on occasionally and it seems to speed up the responsiveness...
