address book -- am I mising something?

I just got the CU515 yesterday, and am in the usual address-book hell trying to update / input all my contact info (last phone died, so AT&T had a hard time pulling info off it, and somehow managed to get millions of old numbers along with it..).
Anyway, when storing to the SIM, how do I designate what "type" the number is.. cell, home, work, etc..? (It looks like it gives you this option when storing to the phone, though, but not the SIM).
Is it better to store numbers to the SIM or the phone?
