I was wondering if someone could help me out, I'm in need of a new phone, as of right now I have the ppc 8125 with cingular, now att. It's about time for an upgrade but I'm having trouble deciding between the iPhone and this phone the HTC tilt 8925.

I like the iPhone b/c it's a cool phone and it's ahead of it's time. But even with the software updats that were just put out, it still lacks features that I like, for example custom ringtones, games, voice dialing, cutting and pasting and mms msg.. (yes I do use those features on my current phone)

I know that with the 8925, I'm already familer with how it works and it's seems to be a nice upgrade.

If someone out there has had the chance to own both phones could I have your opi...

First, I am not anti-iphone, but I will say this, the two phones are aimed at two different markets, both are decent at what they do, and neither is perfect. I do like that the Tilt can be unlocked without problems and even with AT&T's blessing. I also like the fact that the Tilt is 3g hsdpa and has wifi. As far as the iphone, its better at media has a damned nice screen.

If you are more into business and emails then go for the 8925. Really fast data speed and the ability to create and edit Office files. Also MMS is always a plus (I still cant beleieve the iPhone cant do that.) Better camera too.

If you want to be trendy and are more into music then go for the iphone.

But like the previous poster said, two totally different markets.

i'm going to go with what the other 2 said. they are aimed at 2 different segments, but the Tilt can be just as fun as the IPHONE. as an employee of at&t i see a bunch of people, both business minded and trend-setters, buying both devices.

the Tilt can be customized alot more than the IPHONE. there are several updates that can be done on the Tilt that don't have to have a workaround and can just be done through 3rd parties. plus it has the built-in gps for telenav (a really awesome service that has alot of pluses over a tom-tom or garman).

its really going to boil down to what you want. a really big ipod that is also a phone (not knocking it, it is a great device) or the Tilt.

p.s. the tilt can be serviced by at&t with warranty d...

"plus it has the built-in gps for telenav (a really awesome service that has alot of pluses over a tom-tom or garman)"

Not the least of which is that it boosts ARPU by $10/month, eh? 😉

What, exactly, does Telenav do better than TomTom? The look virtually identical to me, with the only real difference being that Telenav costs $10/month while TomTom is a 1-time payment of $150 for the full version. (The 1-city TomTom Taster is free.)

biggest difference between telenav and tom tom is that telenav is web based. your pocket pc connects through internet and loads maps to the phone.

this can be good and bad:
it's good because you don't have to update maps, it automatically updates. and also, it has real time driving traffic updater.
it's bad because you need phone coverage in order for it to work. if you travel outside the cell service area, no telenav!!

I have had an 8125 for several years now & love it. I did break down & buy iphone, although considered Tilt. Like you say iphone doesn't have MMS & Voicedial among other features. On the voicedial I signed up for Voiceconnect thru ATT network, even though it costs $5/mo. it has so many features & capabilities its well worth the five bucks. Iphone will redial on BT headset so, manually dial *08 once & then use redial after that to make calls. Incoming calls do not affect last # dialed. Also once you get email addresses to other networks, its not so bad emailing photo's to others. It actually took me a couple of months of on road daily use to get to where I actually liked using iphone, however the more you use it, the more you like it. It reme...
