While I have not received my Tilt yet (it should arrive Wednesday), I know that the HTC version ships with TomTom Navigation's Taster Edition (very limited). I would imagine that just about any navigation software would be able to take advantage of the integrated GPS if Google Maps and TomTom can. I'll let you know Wednesday. 🙂

Well you can save letting us know because this has been asked and answered over and over. We know it works with 3rd party GPS software other than Telenav. The new edition of Telenav works great on this device so don't listen to those that say it's crap. It's not crap. It's not perfect, but doesn't have to be to NOT be considered crap.

Might be a dumb question, do I need to subscribe or pay extra for Google Map or Telenav? I don't have a data plan, just plan on using the WiFi if I need to connect, which is rare.

Google Maps is free (as is MSN Live Search), but Telenav requires a subscription to use. It's $10/month I believe.

Using Wi-Fi for the GPS wouldn't be very useful, though... it sort of defeats the purpose of being able to move and track your location. :-)

It just occurred to me that I may have answered the wrong question...

If you were asking whether or not you need a data connection to use Google Maps or Telenav for GPS, I believe the answer is yes to both.

Google Maps, MSN Live Search, and Telenav all download the maps in real time over the internet as you move around, so without an internet connection they're not terribly useful as GPS tracking software.

I believe that TomTom Navigator fully installs onto your device, so it might be possible to use TomTom without a data connection. I'm not 100% sure about that, though - you'd have to contact TomTom or find someone who uses it to know for sure.

Windows Live is noticibly slower than Google Maps... dunno how that is supposed to equate to "better."

And I have no idea what "more adult" is supposed to mean... how is that relevant to mapping/GPS software?

I didn't have to do anything - I just loaded up Google Maps, started it, selected "Track Location" on the menu, and then waited for it to find the satellites.

Note that the first time you try it, it takes a LONG time to locate the satellites. It can take 10 minutes depending on where you are. You can speed that up a bit by running QuickGPS first, but even then it can still take 3-5 minutes for everything to synchronize.

After that first time it should only take 1-2 minutes without QuickGPS or 20-30 seconds with QuickGPS.

You're outside when you're doing this, right? You need line-of-sight to the satellites for GPS to work. It will work through a windshield and sometimes through a car roof, but if you're inside you probably won't...
