700wx --> 755 - Some questions before I do it...

I have a 700wx now and I am thinking of switching to the 755 as I have some programs I need for my business that apparently run faster and more reliably on Palm OS rather than Windows Mobile.

I do however have some questions and was hoping someone could answer them for me, mainly these are features I use a LOT on my 700wx that I hope the 755 can also do or has something similar to:

1) The Today Screen - I really love this on the 700wx, I know the 755 doesn't have this natively and I have looked around at the 3rd party solutions, but I have yet to find anything close to the 700wx's functionality there (important items being, time & date, battery life, signal strength, number of unread emails, calendar (agenda), tasks and the final item ...

1. '2day' is the closest app I've found that does this.

2. No

3. No. You have 2 options on the 755p: use the contacts app directly to find a name (will look up as you type), then select the phone # OR use the phone app and type a name (if you have the option set, it will switch to the contacts app as you type and look up the name).

4.Yes, but need to be in phone app (the dialer screen) to do this

Having been a 700wx owner myself, I feel the move to a 755p is a 'downgrade'. You've brought up a few good reasons why. Others: No multitasking, WM5 is more stable, VersaMail is a definite downgrade from Pocket Outlook.

palm is more stable than windows...atleast on the 755 it is. Don't get me wrong, I love windows mobile and all the things you can do with it, but windows can cause so many issues. I switched the 755p because of its size, reliability, and being simple enough to use.

Maybe loaded up with 3rd party apps, but out of the box, I have to disagree. With my 700wx and MotoQ I had to occasionally kill running bkgd apps to speed things up, but random freezes/resets were certainly not the norm. Every Palm OS Treo I've owned -- from the 300 to the 755p have been unstable in this regard.

HandH or Anybody ... the original poster asked:
"The Search Field. The 700wx has a search field on the today screen that I use ALL THE TIME. For instance, driving through a town, hungry, and I want to phone in an order to the nearest Outback - On my current 700wx I just type in "city state outback" and hit enter, the first result I get is the address and phone number where I can just scroll to select the number, hit enter and it dials it - I NEED THIS! Hopefully the 755 will do something similar?"

HandH you state a simple "no." Is this answer correct? What is the search function like please?

The 755p does not have a default 'home screen' like WM5 phones have, nor is there a dedicated search field on any screen.

To perform an Internet search om the 755p requires that you first launch Blazer, the included browser. This is done from either the main screen, or from the phone app screen. You could set Blazer's preferences to use Google search as it's home screen so that it launches whenever you open Blazer. This is the quickest way I know of to do this.

Sprint has also included the "On Demand" app on the 755p which has a number of pre-defined category searches that are customized by zip code (movies, weather, traffic, etc etc). Some of the On Demand features require a pay subscription.

Hope this helps!
